Hi folks, i have took the pollen filter out of my car to check it and haven't replaced it because its improved the heater blower out-put. Is it going to damage the heater rad? After all, its winter so there's no pollen flying about like in summer, and all the leaves are off the trees.Just have to start swerving to avoid pigeons for a change lol! Thanks for any advice.

Not a good thing to do IMO.buy a new one and this should be good as your old one is probably clogged up with dirt.
Make sure you buy a genuin filter for maxim air flow

Geoff, put it back in mate. I know that the blowers better without it, but you could end up getting dirt, leaves etc blown through the vents.

Much easier to have it in than to have to try to get into the vents to remove the stuff that will end up in them.

Yip, as the guys have said, although the immediate gain, you'll pay for it later...

OK OK!! lol! ile put it back in this afternoon, it wasn't to bad for a 2001 so ile give it a quick vacuum till i get the new one(prob because its only done 37000)thanks folk.

2001? Lummy!

I think Dan means crikey! that's a long time before a change.....

Yep.... A take on blimey.... might be Sussex thing... 10 years is a pretty long time for a filter - no wonder you noticed the difference with it out :;lol:

Cheers for explaining that lol! The car hasn't been used much and i think it was overlooked what with the low mileage.ANYWAY!! You guys were right about not removing it,but not because of debris getting into the ducting etc., I was on the A1 yesterday doing 70,,,ish when i started to smell burning plastic,,,as in the inside rear of my glove-box type of burning plastic lmao! Got home, stripped it down and found it was starting to melt stuff in there! Nowt serious fortunately, ive been very lucky, lesson learned!

mines been out > 12 months and its fine, the temp in the system doesn't change just because you take a filter out... and we managed for many many years without all these fancy bits.

IMHO the sheer volume of air and increased demist ability is a no brainer at this time of year

12 months without a pollen filter? Is that not pushing it? I was thinking of keeping mine out over the cold months as there's not as much air-born debris flying around to clog the rad.

why do you think so? its just a filter, I dont suffer from hay fever, I dont suddenly fall over the minute I open the door and breathe "unfiltered" air? OK its a nice to have in some circumstances and I could see that in a big city sat behind buses/wagons pumping out particulates like a mill chimney I might see it differently but I drive on pretty much clean and clear roads and am rarely in traffic of any kind.

plus, in summer the ability to sit in a freezing cold tornado is awesome!!! :D
