Power steering cooler pipe. Opinions

Hi my power steering cooler pipe has rotted away and is now leaking was thinking of replacing with flexi pipe for a quick simple fix. However wanted other peoples opinions. Been told that its best to replace with a universal oil cooler. Wanted to know does the power steering fluid definitely have to be cooled. I'm only doing motorway journeys 120miles per day. Wondering if I could run flexi pipe or better to get a metal pipe or a cooler

It's there for a reason, you'll be surprised how much cooling it does.

It's not a big part replace with original or get one from a breakers.

This... you'd be surprised how much effect this cooling pipe has on the liquid. Keep in mind, it is continually pumped around the rack and constantly under stress, etc.

I know few people which replaced the power steering pipe with universal aftermarket pipe because leaking... The feeling on the steering wheel with aftermarket pipe have nothing to do vs OEM... If you are not pedant for you car it will be ok

I have just looked at min the other day and it's fairly rusted so I might go ahead and buy one just in case.

Hi thanks for the reply I have a mishimoto cooler on the way cheers I spend a bit m9re than that though probs should've done some more research but oh well needed it asap!

Indeed the reason of existency of the power steering cooling pipe is that fluid have to be cooled to not damage the pump and circuit. The only right option is a metal pipe ( not the radiator one as it will cover and therefore weaken the engine radiator). My PS cooling pipe start to leak about 6months ago because of corrosion and I had to replace it. The price of genuine part was about £150 but thanks God I've found on ebay a brand new aftermarket one for only a half price and it does the job perfectly. Happy days.

How does fitting a small oil cooler rad in front of the engine rad "weaken" it in any way?

Mine had a hole in it, I cut it off and put a connecting loop in and drove it for a year without problems.
If we were in a hotter climate it could be an issue, but over here, not so much.

but in a practical sense, does it matter? the ac condenser already covers the radiator, and factory fmics on turbocharged vehicles are often stacked in front of that, making the radiator the last in line

I've been running my PS oil cooler rad for a couple of years with no adverse affects, it'll be far more efficient at cooling and only covers the main rad a fraction of it's entire area. It's also positioned in area that receives air flow directly rather than diverted via the grill or number plate etc, other than that I don't know what Marktheroadrunner is on about but as you say stacking cooling rads together is a very common occurance.
