Apologies for not replying sooner and yes the tailgate problem was resolved after a few dead ends. It did turn out to be broken wires as advised by several members. I looked but couldn't find any broken wires but when I took it to an auto electrician (Ben) he found the broken wires quickly and the tailgate has been working ever since. There's a moral there - leave it to an expert!
If anyone needs any auto electrics work in the Stafford area - I can thoroughly recommend Ben (contact 07506 - 486329).
Now - further news. My Tourer's MOT expires on October 28th, and so a month or so ago the Accord went in for a pre-MOT check up, and a fail was on the cards. Another hole in the o/s sill area and a new o/s ball joint needed. Nothing major - plus several advisories.
Getting the Accord through the previous MOT had cost a lot of money and I told myself that I wasn't willing to spend money again - no matter how much the car meant to me. I've had the Accord for ten years now (October 2016) and it has never let me down. However, sentiment aside, there comes a point when a car's age starts to tell, and so it is with my Tourer. With this in mind I've purchased a 2015 Honda Civic Tourer and this is the replacement for the Accord.
As stated, the Accord's MOT expires on October 28th, and the tax expires on October 31st and then...? A local Evri driver, who is a Honda fan, has expressed an interest in buying the Accord, but I haven't seen him for weeks and no contact since. So, the scrapyard beckons.
I have been driving the Accord regularly and every time I think it's a great car. The ride is better than the Civic; there's more storage space in the cabin, and generally I prefer it, but...
So, if anyone has an interest - please let me know. The VTEC engine has done approx 130,000 miles - therefore good for a few more miles.
