My local garage quoted me £60 to re set my valve clearences as im not compitent or confident enough to do it myself

Is that too much or about right, they said about an hour and a half work and obviously they would need the car dropping off this night before

Cheers for any info :)

I guess that must be a bit hight!
The only time I went to a garage to do the valve clearances they asked me about 50€ (in Portugal)...
Try a Honda garage, usually they have good prices for this kind of service.

A good Honda Dealer should quote about 75-80 + the cost of a new valve cover gasket if my memory serves me right ;)

I don't know how long it takes but garage labour is around £35-40 an hour so 1 1/2 hours for £60 sounds about right.

He's another option stick the 60 squid in the petrol tank and I will do for you totally FREE in the spirit of community :D

Only snag is  it would be an all day affair as the engine needs to be less than 38°C so it needs time to cool down ^_^ and it is advisable but not essential to do an oil change after & replace the valve cover gasket ;)

No prob's but the offer still stands though, I have peeps coming from all over place e.g Perranporth in Cornwall & Croydon B) Also out of interest what made you come to the conclusion of the valves need adjusting, little noisy from cold maybe

From a cold start, even before the weather got worse they is alot of top end knock that quietens right down once up to temp, and its still present to some degree at operating temperature and they'res no mention in the extensive history I have with the car that its ever been done

You may think these as silly questions, but is it an auto or manual and are you using semi or fully synthetic oil?

Manual, Unsure of what oil is in there as was serviced not long before I bought the car

Fare enough buddy, I've found Auto's tend to have a little accelerated valve lash wear, even on the 7th Gen it surfaces now and then  compared with manuals
Also in regards to oil  on the next change I would recommend good a semi synthetic as these engines are a little noisy on some fully synthetics from cold & warm...

Regards HM

Thanks mate, I plan to change the oil soon after the clearances are done, so will use decent semi synth :)
