Rear drop links - rattle

I think when my rear drop links went, its was more of a clunk than a rattle.

When do you hear the noise, cornering, accelerating, over speed bumps or something else?
 
Just driving along. Its not so much a rattle as a series of small clunks.

Also get it when, for example, I move forward a foot (eg a junction), then brake.
 
It could also be the Anti-Roll Bar bushes, although the droplinks are almost a dead cert at this age if they haven't been done before.

Can you get the rear of the car up on some axle stands for a look around?
 
Thats just stupid... You know there needing done but waiting until december... They ant dear parts!!! Put your hand in your pocket... Stop being tight and fix your car... The bushes and droplink help the car...

It'll probably still pass the MOT anyway... worn RARB bushes and drop links aren't particularly serious.

But I think I'd want to do it now rather than December mostly because the temperature is nicer!

Do you mind doing a little DIY? A blowtorch and impact driver makes this a 5min job each side, or be prepared to struggle a bit more with handtools and plusgas.

I've got a diy for these which I'll write up for you. Get the droplinks (Lemforders) from EuroCarParts when discounted. I got them for about £14ish a side, they'll do the job just fine or Honda OEM at £50 per side. I think the OEM bushes are about £20 per roll bar.

Yes I have looked up on ebay the cost of the components, indeed they are inexpensive. The problem of me working on cars, is that I am now 60 and not as fit as I was, particularly since I would have to work in the road outside my house. Plus there is always a tool you are short of.

When I was 23 years old, I would think nothing of pulling a gearbox out on a Saturday Morning, and replacing a clutch. I do have a good local family owned garage in Bolsover who 's labour rates are quite low. However, I will look at your video and think about "having a go" .

The droplink nuts (14mm) are infamous for being rusted on. If you have the means to get them off then the job will be relatively simple.

Some folk prefer to grind them off, others use larger and larger breaker bars until they win. I don't think the blowtorch and impact driver can be beaten in terms of speed and ease.
 
Update

Its booked in on Wednesday for drop links, bushes and rear pads. All the bits cost me £40 off ebay.

Still not happy with the fuel consumption - not as good as my last one, but its a bit quicker.

I think I will check the valve clearances in the next week or so. Not sure about the EGR valve and plate - it sounds a bit complicated from what I have read.
I don't have the same confidence I had when in my 20's
 
I got my front droplinks and bushes done a few months back and rather than pay Honda prices opted for Lemforder droplinks.

Think I got them for about 12-13 pounds a side and bushes for less than 20 for the fronts for carparts4less which often workout cheaper than Eurocarparts.

My last one was very smooth and quiet, this one not quite so. I can do this job myself, no crawling underneath ! After this, the car should be just how I want it.

Oh except I need two new front tyres before winter, on the front. Nexen's ! £45 each fitted, for the all season ones.
