Hi, so I have just bought my 6th gen which I really like. The car was pretty filthy when I got it and there was what appearred to be dirty streaks running down the rear window. When I tried to clean it inside and out the streaks are still there. They seem to be between the glass? Is that possible? Is the window double glazed? Looks horrible so I am a bit gutted. Is it a case of getting a new glass?

A few pictures would be great to help.
Any way, try to get one of those products to polish glass and give it a try.

Have you tried glass polisher?

pure alcohol.. (don't get it on the rubbers.. dry it then polish it with glass polish... sorted

Thanks, I will get some polish and give it a go. :)
simorfc, where do you buy pure alcohol?

Isopropyl Alcohol. You can buy off ebay, or high street shops like Maplin, they seem to have disappeared from many high street shops.

That stuff on your windscreen could be remnants of RainX or something similar.

as exec said.. Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing fluid).. maplin sell it or ebay if you can wait few days and get it cheaper and without listening to some nerd in maplins talking crap mate lol I buy it in 5 litre tins as I use it for various things but you can get 500 ml bottles etc :)

How much you paying for 5ltrs Simon?...I was going to order some for £19.

£15 andy.. Scotland based..(Glasgow) item number - 251257851755 (just enter it into the search bar mate as cant copy the link into my reply lol)

Ok, tried the alcohol and polish but the streaks are in the glass. I have never come across this problem before. I guess the only cure would be to get a second hand rear window. Anybody got one!? :)

I really doubt the streak is inside, how would that be possible unless its a cheap aftermarket replacement screen. You need to polish them properly to get it off, I would suggest try a bit more elbow grease, rather than spend hundreds on a new screen.

Maybe its in the inside of the screen rather than outside? Can you feel the streaks texture?

Yeh mate... do both inside and out... really give it a good elbow grease.. dont be stingy with the alchol either give them a good scrub

Went and got some auto glym polish and gave that a go. Seems to be coming off but it's major graft! Think I will do a bit at a time. :)

Nice one ;) . You can use it on the headlights aswell if they start getting a bit dull/misty.

I just used the blue sponge part for the work and the soft white buffer pad thing to finish. On the plastic you just keep it moving not to create a hot spot, you will probably get excess cleaning/chemical product spun off and into your legs/chest/face so goggles/glasses are a good idea - I'd probably treat the glass the same way. As I said earlier, the sandpaper is too coarse for what I needed (ie the headlights) so that just got flung in the shed.

Thanks for that, if it's any good I might try it on the paintwork. :)

as andy said.. be careful with the paint.. im going to be correcting my paint with some g10 soon as then giving it a good coat of polish and some HD wax to protect it
