Remote starter for Honda Accord ( 2006 )

Hi

Has anyone ever fitted a remote starting unit to their Honda Accord?

What I want to be able to do is remotely start the engine using a keyfob, then have the climate control heat up the car. ( It's a nice to have feature for cold days! )

I've located what looks like a unit which may do the job here:

It's an American web site so don't know if this would be suitable, however It says that it's a universal fit, so in theory should be compatible with my Honda Accord.

All I would need to do is get the device professionally installed, can anyone recommend a garage\person in Warwickshire, Birmingham or Stoke on Trent that could fit this unit?, and what kind of costs would be involved, I believe I've located the instruction manual for this device here:

BTW: Is anyone has already fitted a remote starter and recommend a particular good device, then please post up, I'd be really interested to here your about your experiences with it.

Won't the unit have to circumvent the immobiliser to start the engine? If the RFID chip (in the key fob) isn't near the ignition barrel, it'll not start.
If it were as simple as splicing into the loom, I imagine there'd be rather more nicked Accords.
And what happens when you accidentally leave it in gear and press 'start'...?

Not sure about the immobiliser, it's a good point!

As for starting in gear, I've got an automatic so don't think that will be an issue.

You'd have to take the transponder out of the key and tape it to the immobliser in the car by the steering lock.

I've taken a quick look through the manual, looks complicated to install. I think it has its own immobiliser, though that could be hot-wired. But even then, someone would need the steering lock key to drive it away.

Your insurance would be void for theft having one of these fitted and technically leaving a car started unattended is illegal.

Really?, that's interesting I was looking at the new Passat on Saturday ,anyway looking through the option list, there is an option for a factory fit Parking Heater, it's £1,090 factory fit option on a brand new that will start the car engine and turn on the heating, the dealer didn't mention anything about the legalities of it though.

It's definitely worth checking with the insurance company if it's legal though.


BTW: I'm not buying a passat, I'm sticking with my Honda it's great!

^ I noticed in the manual that the system can be wired up to the door sensors, so that if a door is opened, the engine will stop. But I didn't look closely to see how the system interacts with an existing alram.

Might be worth sitting in the car and setting the alarm with the key then see what happens when you put the key in the ignition and start the engine. I think I tried this once, but I can't remember the outcome :lol:

I should have clarified that the system should be thatcham approved to fulfill your security for insurance, most anyway. But it's still technically illegal to leave a car unattended started I believe. Suppose if you find a thatcham approved remote start with it's own immobiliser than you can somehow bypass the stock one, idk.

As far as I know that doesn't start your engine it's a fuel heat exchanger that heats up the coolant to circulate warm air around your cabin ready for when you get in to drive.

I have a Viper with remote start.
Viper has some special modules for Honda which can be programmed to start the car without needing to leave your key/chip/transponder hidden inside the car.
You can't start the car with the gear in , for a manual transmission there are some steps to follow in order to be able to leave the car prepared for remote starting (brake, no gear, hand brake ON, press some buttons then lock it ... if you unlock it without starting the engine (like you forgot something in the car ) it won''t start, it will automatically cancel the remote starting procedure so you''ll have to follow all steps again ...)
If you don't do these steps before leaving the car , you won't be able to start the engine remotely (so there is no risk to start it accidentally and car to move or something ... )
For heating or cooling, you need to leave the car ON with the desired temperature and when you start the engine the heating/cooling will start, too. You can't control it like switch it ON or OFF.
