Hi, I have a problem with my wife's Accord. The car is a 2004 model 2.2 diesel sport. The problem started a few weeks ago with the 3 warning lights for VSA and ABS coming on on the top right of the dashboard. I plugged in my OBDII reader which spat out 5 fault codes related to the stability system. Now logically I ***umed the chance of all the components failing at the same time was minimal. I therefore ***umed that the VSA control module was probably at fault. I got a replacement one from a car that was being broken and checked there were no faults before buying. The fitting was straight forward and very simple, however upon completion I get the error that the car has lost communication with the module. I have checked the connection is pushed all the way on and the part number on the replacement unit is exactly the same as the old one.

So my question is, do the units have to be programmed to match the car? Or have I got a dead replacement unit?

Yes they need a recalibration carried out. I offer this service in Halifax, drop me a line if you need details.

Those codes you read off may have been historic and not all related to the warning lights... usually it's best to delete all codes and then see which one(s) comes back. What OBD2 reader did you use to read off ABS/VSA codes?

A communication error suggests a connector or module fault to me... try connecting up your old one to see if that can still communicate OK.

You may have to perform a sensor neutralisation at some point (I never have). This has been reported on this forum to work for UK Accords... http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/1st-gen-electronics/31353-error-code-84-vsa-sensor-neutral-position-memorization.html

Hi there, It's a Autel MaxiScan MS309 fault reader. The person I bought the unit off says it was working with no faults in his accord. I reset the errors I was getting from the old unit using this reader. Can anyone recommend someone in the Southampton area that has the Honda equipment if it does need calibration to the car.

Your local Honda dealer will be able to sort it out.
True. But there's a very real danger that VSA/ABS repairs at a Honda dealer will cost more that the car is worth!

i think Cliff means that a local Honda dealer will be able to do the re-calibration with an HDS

Hi,

if you are still having problems with the ABS/VSA, I am in Eastleigh and have diagnostic equipment which can read and reset ABS codes

Paul.
