I have a 2005 Honda Accord 2.2 Diesel. It has covered 135k miles and is used daily on a 100 miles round trip.

A few days a go i noticed the VSA light had come on...when I inspected the car, I noticed the rear drivers side wheel was not sitting right and was in-fact arching inwards.

A couple of friends helped me jack the car up and it appears that the bracket on the body has rusted so badly that it has broken of and the lower wheel arm is not attached to the body of the car any more.

I had it looked at by a mechanic and he said it was very tricky to weld it back on and keep the wheels correctly aligned etc...he suggested that perhaps getting a replacement lower sub frame is a better option?

Really looking for some feedback on what I can do next. The car itself drives very well and has a couple of hundred pounds worth of repairs done in the past 12 months.

Please help me, as i feel totally lost. :(

Has the car been driven regularly or stored near the sea ?

One thing I would not expect, especially from Honda, is a modernish car that rots underneath within a decade.

Or is this a known shortcoming of the Accord ?

Could've had damage in the past and been repaired?? Could mean the original protections not been reapplied in that area?

Or could've been used to tow a boat trailer in and out of the sea??

Either way, structural body corrosion is unusual. The wife's old '01 civic's still really clean underneath, as is my '04 tourer.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I bought the car almost 3 years ago , so cannot say anything about it previous history. The car has got a toe guard, and when I have had previous work done on the car mechanic did tell me that its very rusty underneath, without going into any detail.

The car has been used on a regular basis since I have had it and It is a saloon.

Is it worth a repair? How much do you think It would cost from a back street garage, not going to even entertain the idea of going to the main dealer.....

Found this also on ebay

Need to make a decision sharpish as the mrs wants her car back....... ;)

Any garage should be able to fix it, no need to go to a dealer.

Find out if the seller for the saloon is including everything as with the seller for the Tourer (pic in the link in #2 shows everything included). If the seller for the saloon does include everything, then ask the car mechanic what he thinks about doing it .
