By cleaning the points you acheive a much stronger connection from the rotor arm to the point to send the current to the plug. It's a simple as that. The easier the current flows from the battery to the spark plugs the better for, well, everything really.
And Leon can't beleive you haven't done this sooner mate!!! With all the work you do yourself on your car i'd have thought that this would have been one of the first things you did!! :lol:
