Snapped bolt on lower Wishbone

Front bush is perished on my drivers side wishbone , Whilst trying to remove it yesterday I snapped the bolt that goes through the back mounting into the chassis due to it being so god damn tight ! , literally just snapped about an inch but im wondering how ill get it out now , the remaining threads are only petruding about 1/2 inch so really hard to even get something to grip this to try and turn it :angry:
 
Do you have a pick of the bolt. Might have to drill it out.

Did you soak it in penetrating fluid before trying to remove?

I regularly sparay wd40 when removing hard bolts and I switch the rotaion reguarly to ensure the rust breaks.
 
NO DRILLS !!!! Drills are the last resort after you have exhausted everything else . Extracting snapped bolts is my specalist subject I usually end up doing 2 or 3 of them a day and avoid the drill at all costs . How well tooled up are you ? Do you have an impact stud extractor ? Do you have an old drill chuck lying around ? Really good set of mole/vise grips with good sharp teeth ? A welder ? Heat gun ,blowtorch ? .. Can of shock nd unlock .. can of deoderant .. ?
 
The remainder of the thread is only about 1/2 inch poking through at the other end , would a thread extractor get hold of it
 
You wouldn't need anything sticking out to use a stud extractor, but that entails drilling. If it's so tight it snapped off it'll probably break the extractor anyway.

You could easily get mole grips on 1/2"... might be best to spray penetrating oil and maybe also apply as much heat as you safely can with a blow lamp first.
 
Half inch out is enough for my impact extractor to grip ... looks like this .. It's basically an auto tightening drill chuck with extra grippyness ..


They ain't over expensive slong as I don't say snapon on it .. and really get one out of some awkward spots . I put the snapon rattle gun on the back of it .. give the bolt some heat then pull the trigger .. 9 times out of 10 it does the job if it has enough to grip .

Interesting tool, might have to get one of these for my tool box
 
Got it sorted today , had to take it to a local mechanic , he tried with the extractor tool but had no luck so in the end he had to get his burning gear out and get it out this way , had to then use an inch longer bolt and a nut but now back on the road again , what a nightmare a little job turned into a big job.
 
He did what !!! Sounds like he rode in on a horse .
I did 2 extractions today , flush break offs on a CAT skiddy foot plate , one came out with the ,hammer and punch , the other I drilled and collapsed the outsides . Both were able to get new bolts put back in just the way they were before they had been cleaved off by a clumbsy driver .
 
Not the best way of doing it but its got me back on the road , im a private hire taxi driver and lost all Friday , Saturday . Sundays and most of todays earnings , these are the main days I earn most of my money

Got to try and catch myself up now for the weekends earnings ive lost :(
