Hi there.New to the forum and hoping for some help.Last week my centre exhaust on my 52 plate 2.0 collapsed where the pipe meets the silencer..I limped about 100 yards to pull in and everything was fine.Myself and a friend tied up the exhaust so we could get it to the garage. After tying it up i got back in,started the engine and the engine management light was on and the speedo and mileometer weren't working. My friend has a basic code reader which came up with 2 codes relating to lambda sensors, a speed sensor code and a couple of others.Managed to clear speed sensor and one lambda but speedo still not working.Have had a look both underneath and under the bonnet and can't see anything obvious. Can't work out why tying up an exhaust towards the back of the car could cause a) speedo to stop and b) lambda codes which is causing rough tickover. As an add on cruise control not working and neither is the v-tec.Any help very much appreciated. Thanks

the car has two main faults

1. faulty readings from O2 sensor (aka AFR sensor). It might indirectly be due to wrong back-pressure, or maybe the sensor or wire got dislodged/damaged, either way this will stop the engine going into vtec to protect the engine

2. problem somewhere in the reading of road-speed. I cannot see how this would be directly related to point 1, but whatever is causing it, that's why the cruise control isn't working

Ok thanks. Have had a look and can't see any trapped or broken wires. By the 02 sensor i take it this is the lambda?
Am beginning to think speed sensor may have packed up and it's this is all a coincidence

There are two sensors in the exhaust system.

The first is upstream of the CAT (i.e. between CAT and engine), this is called the AFR (air/fuel ratio) sensor.
The second one is located on the CAT and is called the O2 sensor (or Heated O2 sensor)

The engine ECU uses the first one to keep the AFR (or lambda) where it wants it to be according to the engine map, and it also compares the two sensors to determine the efficiency of the CAT.

The road speed sensor is located on a drive on the gearbox.

Just one question, if your car is a 2002, is it a 7th gen Accord (a 7th gen 2.0 Accord should have JHMCL7 in the first 6 characters in the VIN)

Hi. Am aware of the two exhaust sensors. The one on the manifold (afr) was replaced last year and seeing as when the exhaust was tied up it was pulled towards the offside am thinking the one on the cat is at fault.
Vin begins with SHHCH7. Have i got this wrong and it's a late 6th Gen model? Thanks for your help

LOL yep it's a 6th gen, I see you've asked in that section, answers will be similar, but the sensors in the 6th gen might be in slightly different places ;)

edit: and I don't have any Honda service info for 6th gens
