Standard AIRBOX mods

HI ppl,

Ive been reading alot about the pipercross panel filters and how most ppl relate to some chap on civic forum, relic? Anyway, this chap has done alot of testing on the panel filters however all of these are on a CIVICs!!! The airbox on the accord and the air feed is different

I replaced my panel filter yesterday as it needed to be renewed, having read all the forums, I decided to go standard filter.

I take my air box out and had a look at the air feed etc.

First thing I noticed is the AIR IN side of the airbox has a clip of plastic on the inside which when looked at from the outside looks to block/restrict air from going straight up.

Is there any reason for this? I have removed mine, now when you look from the outside it looks a lot more open on the intake side.

Has anyone done any REAL testing on the accord with different air intake positions? I don’t think you can really expect any performance increase from a panel filter without improving the air intake source.

I had an IDEA when I removed my air box, underneath you can clearly with the gearbox and road, i.e cold side of the engine??!? I was considering opening the air box by making a second air hole with a funnel, giving 2x sources, the front OEM and air duct source into rear underneath the airbox, the second air ducting would not be near to the road but would be away from direct heat sources.

Anyone else taken out their airbox’s and had a tinker?

Everyone used to refer to the EP3 airbox tricks as the Hondata mod - now perhaps thats because Hondata documented the gains ***ociated with it, but I honestly do not know.

I replaced my panel filter with a pipercross (they manufacture Spoon filters), removed the resonator box from behind the bumper and just extended the inlet pipe about 6 inches into the area behind the bumper and therefore out of the hot engine bay.

At first I thought it sounded like the typical barried up Corsa or Micra, but accompanied by the stainless cat-back to creates quite a nice noise.

I don't know how much gain can be got from smoothing out any of the castings inside the airbox as per the hondata mod, but i cannot see it being an overly worthwhile use of time. I would say you would get more gain from changing the stock pipework between the airbox and throttle body than doing the airbox mod.
