A week after my Alternator problem my starter motor is now playng up , when you turn the key you can hear the stater motor spinning but its not engaging then after 5 to 10 seconds you can hear it slightly engaging then I stop it turn the key again and it starts perfectly , anyone know what the problem will be , my flywheel has become noisy sometimes aswell could this affect it.

Thanks

It sounds like the starter motor is on its way out, ive know them to go on for months like that being very intermitent.

It sounds like the starter motor solenoid is not always engaging the starter gear. Either that or the teeth on the flywheel or starter gear are damaged and won't allow the starter gear to engage. The starter motor itself sounds like its working correctly.

Can the solenoids not stick as well?

Saw that in War of the Worlds lol.

Happened to me on an old Renault 5. I removed the starter and greased it all up and put it back together. Worked a treat.
