Strange tapping noise

Hi Guys!

My 4th Gen has developed a real strange tapping noise (like shaking a paint can). Wierd thing is it only does it when WOT at about 5k RPM onwards and in 1st gear only! I've redlined it in all other gears and it's ok, no noise. even red lined it in N and still, no noise.

Any pointers really appreciated as I'm begining to think it's the Gearbox but strange thing is it sounds like it's coming from the other end (as in the Cambelt side)....

From your testings, logic would point at the gear box . Hope it turns out to be something not so drastic.

Hi Marcus,

Just done over 102k. would be wierd for the GB to go so soon as my old one did +140k when I trashed it and the GB still felt strong. Am going take a proper look this weekend pending the weather as I've a funny feeling ti's something completely random and maybe loose enough to just make a noise on WOT.
