Honda Accord 2.2 EX
Guys,

Is there some sort of manual available for these cars (Accord 8th Gen - specifically 2.2 iDTEC 2012)

Haynes do one - but the US doesn't like diesels
"PLEASE NOTE that this manual is intended for vehicles built to US specifications and do not cover diesel models unless specifically stated. Although it is useful when the products or systems are similar to those in other markets, there may still be significant differences, especially in areas concerned with safety and emission control."

Now I have to admit - I am not that interested in the engine itself other than as a device that needs its oil changed on a regular basis. But I am interested in the stuff that goes on around it.
Electrics, & autobox specifically but also other stuff. So I would like summat that caters for the UK models

Is there anything better that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Regards

Sean

Note that the US Accord is different from the European Accord, but they say the manual is suitable for Acura TSX (which is same as European Accord). It's also in PDF format, which is interesting because the Honda ESM (Electronic Service Manual) normally runs as javascript in I.E.

It might be ok though ;)

I got the Honda ESM from here : https://www.winchestertrading.co.uk/ and it was really cheap.

It comes on a DVD and cannot be installed on a PC so you have to run it with the disc loaded at all times.

It has been a lifesaver for me but there are a few quirks. However, it's been fine for everything that I've needed to do so far (repairing 2009 2.2 EX that my son had beaten up ).

The link in post #2 above is to a thread where that source gets mentioned.
Post #16 in that thread also has instructions on how to make the ESM work without the DVD.

I've copied the instructions below ....

------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Create a directory called "esm8gen" (you can call it anything you want)

2. you only need to copy the "_COM" and the "en" directories, and the file "HONDAESM.HTML" into the above

3. then go into the "_COM" directory, right-click on "LANGINFO.JS" and select Edit (it should open in Notepad)

4. there are only two functions in there, one is SetLang which looks like this

function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('de','German');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('es','Spanish');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('it','Italian');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('pt','Portuguese');
}

5. delete all the languages except English such that the function now looks like this

function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
}

6. save the Notepad file back to disc

To start up the ESM

A.. double click on "HONDAESM.HTML" and "Allow Blocked Content" in I.E., then OK on "Execute Microsoft Internet Explorer", then No on "Do you want to close this window" (some messages can be eliminated by modifying a couple of other JS files, feel free to ask for more info)

B.. then expand the browser, click on "Shop Manual" and there it is, the ESM in English

------------------------------------------------------------------

Following on from #16 in that thread I made the English-only 7th gen ESM publicly available in dropbox.

If anyone wants the 8th gen ESM the same way, send me a PM.

I tried to reach you by PM but it seems that your inbox is full. :)

This is fantastic info Freddfrog. After following your instructions I have the english only ESM on an old laptop and it works perfect.

I downloaded the rar/iso file from here: Post in thread 'Workshop Manual' https://typeaccord.co.uk/board/threads/workshop-manual.24573/post-259482
Then burned the file to a dvd and finally copied the english version to the laptop.

Thank you,
Johnny
