I've bought a 2.0 SE Exec (2002), and I'm tempted to change the exhaust, purely to make it sound better. Firstly, will it affect the MPG or HP doing so? My sister has a 1.8 Accord, and has an S2000 exhaust on hers. Secondly, can anyone recommend an exhaust they've fitted to theirs?
Using an aftermarket exhaust can potentially increase the amount of power your car outputs due to the engine being able to breathe more freely, adding an induction kit alongside an exhaust will further aid in increasing power again since the filter increases airflow into the engine, I don't know about how it affects MPG but I don't think it's that great a difference.
Really the only way to get a little more power out of these engines with breathing mods is to do the whole lot. Long ram, decat, and full system with a 2.5"pipe that has madrel bends in it.
An induction kit will give a great sound, but don't believe the ******* they say about this SRI kit will give you 5bhp. It's rubbish. They are worth it though purly for the noise.
Definitely get an induction kit! I fitted a cheapo eBay one to my 6th gen - the sound is amazing. Hit the VTEC and everyone on the pavement turns around lol. But like has been previously said, you won't notice much change until you've done a full exhaust system too - it's all fine and well getting lots of air in, but you've got to get it all out efficiently too otherwise the engine is still being hampered. I'm sure there are lots of places that'll fabricate up a nice free flowing exhaust, or if you're feeling very hands on companies such as Jetex sell a full range of components online. I have a cat-back from powerflow in my garage, although it appears to have crush bends
RE the mpg - on my SE Exec it's bad, as it always has been lol. I just don't think they're particularly economic cars unfortunately, although tbh I could probably do better if I changed my driving style... But where would be the fun in that
i have an CAI intake on my accord and when i put my foot down it does sound lush and the is even a whistle under the grunt people love the sound of it.....
