I had the manifold replaced under warranty about 40,000 miles ago and all has been pleasantly diesel fume free....until, sadly, over the last couple of months the fumes have returned. Last night I disconnected the heat shield to have a look for the tell-tale black marks, apart from not being able to get it out completely, from what I could see there are no witness marks. I tried running the car to see if the leak was obvious but I can't see where the fumes are coming from.
So, before I start a proper dismantle, I wonder if there's any other common leak points that I should be on the look out for? Would I be correct in thinking that the leak has almost got to be between the engine and the turbo as that's the only area where there would be sufficient pressure to push out enough fumes? (a leaky exhaust would need a pretty big hole to be noticeable within the cabin wouldn't it?)
Cheers,
Del
