accord cdti
Hi

I hope someone can help me with this problem. I have an accord 05 cdti. When the car is reving at 2200-2400 rpm I hear a loud whistling sound which does go away when over or below this rev range? Is the turbo bearings on their way out or does car have some loose pipe fitting? It's not affecting performance as car pulls as normal. I don't think it's related to cabin noise either as only happens when accelerating and within specific rev range.

Thanks in advance

The turbos on our cars are very lively and do make a nice noise IMO.
But to be sure can you get a vid up of your noise just to make sure.

Mine makes a similar very noticeable sound (but I would call it a whine, rather than a whistle), continuously under light acceleration between about 1500 - 2500 RPM, but only when cold... after about 5 minutes of driving I hardly ever hear it - and I have heard of other members saying the same thing. Maybe if your's does it when warmed up then there is an issue? Like Brett said, post a recording.

Ok. I'll record when I get a chance and post. It's the same when cars warmed up too. I did a 150 mile trip yesterday and noise persisted.

Remember - it is ESSENTIAL that the turbo has a good supply of oil all the time. Make sure your oil is in good condition and keep to regular oil changes.

If it is coming from your turbo then some sound is normal especially when cold but i wouldn't say these turbo's whistle , whoosh sucking type of sound is normal but if it's high pitched then it's worth getting it looked at. You can check the turbo for shaft play in/out and make sure the blades not scraping the housing. Not sure about tolerance but a little in is ok but should be almost no side play.

What mileage is on the turbo, and as Saj said quality oil is important aswell as keeping it topped up.
