Hi I am planning on replacing the tweeters in my 03 ex tourer. I was wondering if anybody knows if the stock tweeters have the capacitor built in or if they are in the harness. Basicly when I fit the new tweeters will I need to use the in line capacitor on the new ones?

Also does anybody know which coloured wire is the positive or negative.

Thanks

morning, speak to andy (monks) about this as he did my tourer not so long ago. sure he wont mind u dropping him a pm matey :) al

Mark I wish I could be more help but a friend of mine did it all for me, he fits ICE ect... I will ask him if he knows.

I think the signal is already filtered from the amp so you can just hook up your new tweeters, as long as you wire both the same should be ok.
They easily pry out with a small flat head screwdriver wrapped in tape, but be carefull not to drop the wires you only have 2/3 inches of slack.

Are you installing tweeters from a component set?

Thanks for the replies.

Yes fitting tweeters from a component set.

I'm sure its fine as the crossover business is done by the amp, its the premium sound system you have right? If so then the hu sends a four channel signal to the amp which then converts it to 8 channels and sets the signals before sending out. Mids to the doors, lows to shelf and highs to tweeters.

If you fitting the mids aswell you may find it underpowered and could look into bypassing the amp altogether buts its a fair bit of work involved or match the speaker to the amp. The stock amp is weak imo.

Cheers for the info. I do have the PSS but I have the estate so no speakers in the shelf. Their is a sub in the boot. Not sure what speakers are in the rear doors, any idea? I was planning on changing them with some 3 way speakers, would these be ok?

Thanks

If your replacing just speakers then the doors handle mids only, I would buy a low end but quality speaker to fit in but if your changing the front speakers aswell then I would leave the rear as they are it'll create a better front biased sound stage. just keep in mind the stock amp is weak so don't put anything too powerfull in there, you'll just be wasting money and they'll be underpowered.

As for sizes i'm not 100% but if you search the forum its been discussed before, you'll also need to make some spacers for them from mdf or buy plastic ones.

what are trying to achieve, big bass and clarity or just an improvement over stock. By replacing the front door speakers, dynamat the doors and look into replacing the sub (8"? search forum) in the boot with a better one or you can install a slimline powered sub in there easily will make a good improvement imo. Anything more than that you need to think about adding your own amp and bypassing the stock one altogether but need to be carefull you don't introduce noise as the hu outputs a balanced signal not to mention chopping of wires as no harness is avalable. depends what you want to achieve a few people on here have different setups.

I just want to have a general improvement over stock. Think I will replace front door speakers and dash tweeters with the components I have - Cheap Alpine Type Rs and leave rear doors as stock. I am looking into upgrading sub but not at the moment.

Thank you for you help!

Mark

I'm not sure if this will help or not but I've got a four door with the standard tweeters on the dash plus door and shelf speakers . I've added two 6" bazooka tubes in the boot which take there signal from the rear shelf speakers ( It has made a massive difference ) .
