Hi,

I know that this subject comes down to 'personal preference', but I was wondering if anyone has experience of the Michelin Energy tyres 16", and the Dunlop 16".

I have read some reports of the Michelins not being that good in the wet !!. I have been offered 4 Michelins, part worn, 8mm tread on them for a very good price. My car currently has Dunlops on it,and is relatively quiet with regards to road noise.

Thanks,

Acco'

8 mil tread is a brand new tyre. if your getting them at part worn prices then snap there hand off and worry about the road noise later.

the energys are designed to give very good rolling resistance so I would imagine road noise would be minimal. you won't be hooning it in to corners but smiling away at getting pretty much brand new Michies at part worn prices.
its a no brainer for me.
now log off and go tell the dude you will take them.

keith Part worn with 8mm tread sounds a bit suspicious to me.I would check these out for defects in the wall and make sure there not remoulds.
If there ok and your happy with them go for it.

Hi, I had 4 Michelin Energy tyres fitted 3000 miles ago, no real problems in the wet, seem good tyre, noise wise they are a little on the niosy side, havnt had any other tyres on the car, so cant help there!

Slightly off topic, I bought my car in Jan 2006, just over one year old, with 225/45 17". It was fitted with Japanese tyres and the stearing slowly became skittish all over the place. When the tyres had worn out I put Michelin Pilot Sport on and it was fine. When the fronts had worn out I changed to Bridgestones and the same thing started again, I even had the tracking checked and it was still the same. I put up with it until the Bridgestones had worn out, went back to Michelin Pilot Sport, and it is fine again.

Not sure if that was unusual, or if anyone else has found strange handling with different brands of tyre, but for me Michelins are the best (though I can't be sure about Michelin Energy of course)

Well, in the end I got the Michelins X 4, and I am very impressed !, They are extremely quiet compared to the Dunlops I had on,admittedly they were very worn, but I still think that the Michelins are quieter. The car has now had a major service aswell, so running like a dream...............unlike my bank account, thats turning into a nightmare after all of that outlay !!
