Using loads more fuel?

Hi. I have a 2.2ctdi tourer that I use as a taxi. A couple of weeks ago the engine management light came on and on the diagnostic it reported something to do with the accelerator?? he fiddle with it a bit and it went off for a week, now it comes on when it feels like it. The car drives fine but in the last few days it's using A LOT more fuel. Any ideas or help as to what's causing this would be greatly appreciated.

EGR? What error code did you have?

As Dan said, what code did you get?

Any other noticeable symptoms?

Throttle Position Sensor is the only thing I can think of relating to accelerator but would need to know the code really.
