Last 2 occasions that my car has been sitting overnight, or during the work day in the car park. I've notice when trying to get out of a parking space that my power steering is extremely heavy, almost unsteerable. This is accompanied by a not to great sounding Power Steering Pump whine.

I found this on you tube and hope this is the solution, It's certainly the right noise, although unsure if it would cause the steering heavyness. Once the car warms up and up to speed the steering is fine, no problems, only when it's a cold start after a good period of time parked.

Wary of taking it to the dealers incase they try to bump me for a new power steering pump.

Any thoughts?

Please tell me you have checked the power steering fluid level and the colour of the fluid. If it's low or manky, flush and change it before it kills your pump ifcit is not to late already.

Not yet as it's been dark both times it's happened, it's due it's service just about now. Definitely checking in the morning.

If it's not red change flush and change it. If it's low top it up.

Do it sooner rather than later as it will kill your pump. I can testify to this as I have just killed a pump on my mondeo because I left it to long to top up the fluid.

Just checked it with my iphone light, practically no power steering fluid left. That'll do it! Manual says it needs to be honda power power steering fluid (V, II or S) good so nothing i can get at the local auto shop in the morning. Grrrrrr.

Thanks crespo appreciate it. Should really have checked first.

It doesn't have to be Honda specific. Just make sure it's ok for Honda at your local motor factor. Pretty sure it's red fluid for Honda's.

Filled it up a couple of weeks ago, was empty again yesterday. Took it to the garage, it's a faulty power steering cooling pipe. Part is ordered from honda and it's about £320 supplied and fitted. They said it's a bit of a job to replace it.

bumper has to come off (you can see the pipe if you look through the bottom grille)

Is it not a job you can do yourself, the accord bumper is ridiculously easy to remove.
