Hi Guys, I am still in a state of shock. The VSA and yellow triangle came on over the weekend, and I've just had Ash Honda (Yeovil) run a diagnostic test - £42. There were various codes:

61.1 battery voltage
17.1 12.1 14.1 18.1 speed sensor faiures and......
66.1 brake pressure senor failure.

They cleared all the fault codes, except the 66.1 and quoted a new VSA modulator at £1910.04 inc. They didn't even offer me a chair before telling me! The quote breaks downs as follows:

Parts £1692.84 inc
Labour £193.20 inc
Brake fluid £24.00 inc
Total £1910.04 inc

The car has done 81k and is 7 years old, so it is not covered by the TSB SK-07-007-00 extension of warranty for VSA modulator failure. I have asked the dealer to contact Honda UK to see if there might be any goodwill, but while the car has a full service history, the last 2 annual services were carried out by an independent.

I am annoyed because when the TSB was issued, on 1 Nov 2010, my car qualified by time and mileage, and the TSB clearly states the failure of the VSA modulator presssure sensor is ..."due to a production fault at the supplier" So why wasn't a general recall issued?

I'm not sure what my options are, I suppose I could:

Try and find a recon unit and get it fitted by an independent?
Remove/disable the VSA and yellow triangle lamp bulbs? Is this even possible?
Try and find a cheaper quote from another Honda dealer?

Any advice welcome......

Sorry to hear that, you can get dealers that'll do it cheaper huk normally heavily discount the part so definately worth getting in touch with them. You can try a used part or have this unit repaired.

Hi mate sorry to hear the news i have just sorted mine i had the vsa on for over a year just replaced it i can give u several options,

1. get it repaired at ecu testing.com it will be around £165 plus vat u will have to take it off and post it to them .
2 source one from ebay i no of 2 on there price varies between £100- £300

its not a big job for a garage to do i done mine myself but i ran into trouble with air in the brake lines but thats my luck .

if u do go ahead and get a garage to fit it for u tell them to take the bumper and o/s front light out to gain access .

if you can get your part no of your pump and year it will help you track down a pump i aslo got offered two from ne jap spares but thy were not cloe to my part no so i got the one from ebay.

on top of your part will be a code starting 57110-

if u need any help just ask

Dave

I can recommend this garage in axminster for the work to be done. http://www.country-motors.co.uk/. With the knowledge you have ask Brian for a quote and some advice. He is so honest and reasonable priced, I have never had any problems with his work and the lads that work there.

Dave, Thanks mate that's a great help and a relief too. I thought we were about to kiss goodbye to 2 grand!

I am not confident enough to do the work myself, so I'll have to use a local garage. I've just found the ABS unit behind the o/s/f headlight. It has 6 brake pipes going into it. The number on the top is 57110-SEF-E551-M1. Does that sound right? There are some other codes as well like ATE 06.2102-0117.4 and DE (TYPE: EFVVV) SEFE5

Do you know if I can drive the car without the pump fitted?

Bob - thanks for the tip about the Axminster garage. About an hour away from me, I'll call to see what they say.

Thanks,

Max

Hi Guys, after lots of phone calls, my plan is to use a local garage, Paul Gunstone Mechanicals where I trust the mechanics, Paul and Charlie as being very honest, helpful and reasonable. Although they haven't worked on a 7th gen Accord ABS before, they have replaced loads of units on VW and Audi cars. They will send the part off to ECU testing for me, as they reckon they are the best company in UK for repairing ECU and ABS units.

When I showed Paul the location the ABS pump, he fancies getting it out through the top by removing the hoses and air-con line, rather than droping the front bumber and removing the o/s/f headlight unit. Obviously, the air-con will have to be re-charged afterwards, but I am happy about that.

I've uploaded a photo of the pump and hoses/lines . Are there any other problems that we should know about before we choose this route?

Sorted!! At a fraction of the dealer quote (£1900). ECU Testing repaired the ABS unit for £165+VAT and my local garage removed and refitted it for £135+VAT, so cigars all round. :D :D

I'm going down to the Honda dealer tomorrow to show them the invoice from ECU Testing..........

Thanks to everyone for advice and a great forum.

Max
