Hello again lads,

Just got back from auto electrician and sadly the error code was 66-1 so its looks as though my vsa module is shot. My motor is a 2005 icdti tourer with 107,000 on the clock. It has a full service history but not all main dealer so I dont think there would be any chance of any good will at Honda. I certainly cant afford the dealer repair prices so I am really in need of some guidance and help. I am up in county durham so does anyone know if there is anywhere up here that can sort this. Can the unit be repaired and refiitted. I have a local independant garage who carry out all my work is the job of removal and refit easy enough for these lads to do. This may sound silly but where is the sensor located so I can get a look at it. If I were to buy a second hand one does it have to have a certain part number or code. Gutted at the minute because I have had no issues with the motor up until now.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

John

Hi John - they can be repaired and some members on here have done this. About £200 if I remember correctly. You should find this in a google search of the site.

<edit> The sensor is built into the ABS modulator so you can't see it directly. But you can see the pump. It's on the left hand-side at you pop the bonnet. It has all the brake lines running into it. With an orange handle on it.

And as I typed the above post I found the company - http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/Products.aspx?category=94

My local Honda garage will remove, send away for refurbish (with 12 month warranty on the refurbished part) and refit with courtesy car for while it's out for around the £500 mark all in. So that's refurb, labour and courtesy. It is obviously cheaper if you can get the part and fit it yourself, but if you don't fancy doing the work and need a car in the mean time, speak to your Honda garage about a similar deal.

Thanks for that jason.

Does the sensor detach from the pump or does the whole unit have to be removed for repair.

Cheers,

John

Unfortunately it's an integrated unit, the whole lot has to be taken out for repair. That means that while it's being repaired you'll have no car (i.e. no brakes)

Quck update regarding the VSA situation. My local dealers have quoted me £550 for removal / refurb / refit of abs pump/vsa modulator with courtesy car. The one thing that worried me was when the guy said there was no guarantee that the unit could be repaired as they had not done any diagnostics on it and if it couldn't it would still cost me the price of the labour. I saw the error code 66-1 on the screen when I took the car to our local auto electrician. Honda also quoted me £200 for fitting of part if I were to supply one. Do bba reman sell these units.

Could anyone advise me on which option I should go for. Any help will be greatly appreciated as money is tight at the minute.

Well, can the local dealer not do a diagnostic first and then quote you £550? Seems a bit much to change something for you randomly on the hope it'll work. TBH 66-1 is so common with a common fix.

Why not ring BBA and ask if they will guarantee the unit once repaired?

just finished speaking with BBA Reman. They quoted me £135 for a repair with a lifetime warranty. So at the minute I have a constant vsa and triangle lamp illuminated on my dash (no abs lamp illuminated). The local electrician diagnosed error 66-1 and said it was the abs pump. Does this information guarantee that its the vsa modulator.

Do I :-

1. Source a local independant garage to carry out the work and get the part off to BBA Reman for repair ( if it can be repaired )

2. Bite the bullet for £550 at honda dealers for removal / refurb ( if repairable) / refit + courtesy car

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

John

Well, if I understand already, Honda are quoting £550 with no guarantee that it'll fix it right (although it should)? So, is the question is:

Do you spend £550 with no guaratee of a fix or £135 plus labour with no guaratee of a fix? I see the risk in both cases the same.

However, 66-1 is definately a VSA modulator error.

Well guys I have came to a decision regarding the VSA issue. The motor is going into Honda on friday for diagnostics to confirm that it is defo the VSA modulator prior to getting the work done. Once it is confirmed and the job done the total cost will be £590 which includes a courtesy vehicle while the car is off the road. What is your opinion on the price. Compared to what others have paid it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for all the replies and advice on the VSA issue. I greatly appreciate the help given.

John.

Personally, I don't think that's too bad all things considered.
