I have the petrol version of the owner's manual for my car, so I'm not sure if this is different on the diesel, but according to my owner's manual the MIN and MAX reading on the reserve tank sound be on the back side, but on my reserve tank it's on the passenger side and basically impossible to see the coolant level, because the plastic seems really thick, so I have no clue if I'm low on coolant or not. Even shaking the car doesn't reveal the water level.

I have the diesel 8th gen and can't see the level from outside the tank, not a clever design, maybe it's an age thing and the plastic becomes opaque. you'll just have to remove the cap and ascertain the level visually or dip it.

Hmm, and I thought the reservoir tank on mine was all metal.

I just take the lid off when cold and check the bars under the surface are just about covered. SInce I've owned the tourer she has never lost a drop (as though the tank is separate from the rest of the system ;) )

Open the cap and shine a flashlight into the hole, the level will be visible with illumination.
