Hi all

I need to do a oil change on the cg9. The car does not smoke or consume much oil. The car is quite modified and is always being driven VERY hard. Basically I need a good quality oil that will help increase the performance of my car.

Thanks guys

What mileage is the engine on? I would stick to 10w40 on an old engine like that, or maybe a 5w40.

I use 100% synthetic 5W-40 on my F18B2, and I just add about 1/2 liter every 10000kms...

Ok interesting. What are the downsides to having thinner oil I.e 5w30. I belive that the thinner the oil the better the performance of the engine

Don,t think on oil as a performance enhancer, more to a maintenance must do! If you go with thinner oil you can get more consumption at high loads and temperatures, but changing it at regular intervals, a good oil filter, suggesting the pcx or better, with good oil you will have good performance whatsoever the grade!

I'm used to Mobil1 and i use it for more than 10 years on various hondas, even in tranny's(ya your heard it) and love it, i always go for 5w40 or better(50), in canada you get the minus 30 degrees factor so 5w is a must, and since most of the engines a had was 6000rpm worthy i tried to go with more than a usual 30!

5-50 FTW!!!!!!!! As Hernani has said, Mobil1 is one of the best choices around. Or try Fuchs. Both are great oils.

topping up should be ok mate. Does the car drink oil at all???

I know there have been a few threads on this, but also have to top-up oil on high mileage 2.2 Accord diesel (125k - 05 plate).

Travelling tomorrow, so only option is to pick up some oil at local Halfords tonight - should I go for 0W-30 / any suggested brands (lower the price the better) to look out for?.

Cannot get hold of last owner, as would like to use the same grade to what he has been using - but no idea.

Thanks in advance.

^ You should be okay in topping up. With the diesel unit, stick to 0w30, nothing else. Brandwise, just go with something mainstream would be my advice, avoid brands which you have not heard before or supermarket brands, etc etc. Remember these engines need an oil change on a regular basis if you want trouble free motoring. Do check lubetech as they can supply a good deal for the diesel units as many members including myself have gone for. Infact, I have just received another bottle of oil from them today for the 6th gen.

Thanks mate - will go that way, and go for oil change when back. Not up to doing it myself, what should I expect to pay ? Guess depend on If dealer or local garage. And guess can supply my own oil? Also. Tks
