Hi there,

So I have a 2004 CDTI with just over 150,000 miles and the car has a fair amount of white smoke while idling. It used to just be when the car is cold but does it all the time since my turbo started making a loud whistling noise.

How would I check what is wrong and/or what needs to be repaired/replaced?

Cheers in advance for any help. :)

Well I would start with a turbo mate.. is it losing oil too? Is it losing any coolant?

Whistle is probably normal, but if it's more of a whine then that's not a good sign.

Are there any running issues? Missing, hesitation, lack of power, drop in economy etc?

There is a lack of power around 2000rpm. As for economy I don't drive the car a huge amount anymore or for long distances so I can't really tell.

The car sometimes shakes around 45-55mph, but I've read that that is probably caused by the drive shafts.

Could be a number of things but really it needs a full and deep diagnostic session. Where are you located?
