Mine don't need changing yet but just want to find out if iridium plugs would make any difference.

I found a thread on here which suggested iridium but Honda use standard plugs. Anyone had any experience?

Hi Chris,

I use these on mine, to be fair I haven't noticed any difference but I suppose it saves you from changing them on every service as they last longer. So a slight bit of saving in the long run. I have had mine in for years now. I am sure they last 75k miles...

Cheers

Honda says the service interval for the standard plugs is every 2 years or 25k miles (40k km), mine are due this year iirc. People have said better bang for buck with iridium/platinum plugs but most tuners say no it's not the case.

Hi, my CL7 is an AT 2.0. I am really concerned on this matter also as mine were changed 1.5 year ago and did 20k km with them. Densos. However lately I feel the engine not so responsive as it was before. I had the same issue with the previous spark plugs (NGKs) but this occured only after 30k km. When I had them replaced responsiveness turned great feel. I am considering to change them and go back to NGK, basic or iridium. What do you think?
In addition does anyone have a clear opinion whether iridium spark plugs perform better than the basic ones?

I don't know the answer to that but you would think a spark is a spark and its only the longevity you are paying for rather it being about to add to the performance. It can only ever ignite what is in the cylinder, it can't contribute to the bang.

My sparks come out for inspection and during valve clearance jobs as part of maintenance so I am getting an idea of how the engine is behaving by looking the insulator and electrode. Personally, I'd rather do that than leave them in blind for 75k, bearing in mind the crush washer each time if you remove them.

" It can only ever ignite what is in the cylinder" DEFINITELY, "it can't contribute to the bang" but if the spark is weaker or not on the exact timing it may affect performance imho

Iridium won't make a difference to the 2.0 litre - as noted you'll get 75K miles out of them instead of the 25K with standard ones. Not sure what the costs are in the UK but over here, the standard ones are €5 each (NGK) whereas the Iridium are €20 each. So it's €80 every 75K miles or €60 every 75K miles. Small money TBH.

I don't normally keep a car for more than 10k so when I change them I'll just stick to the standard ones. I was hoping the irridium would give some benefit other than long life.

Cheers!

jayok I think you are right, and as AndyB1976 said previously "My sparks come out for inspection and during valve clearance jobs as part of maintenance so I am getting an idea of how the engine is behaving by looking the insulator and electrode" it's good to have a view of what's going on in there :)
