Timing chain replacement type s tourer

Had a search and couldn't really find an answer that fit my question.

My car is currently at 178,000 miles, I can't see any noticeable issues with running. It smokes a little at first start and hard acceleration but put that to the cold weather lol!

Any way, I was under the impression these chains were pretty solid. Is there a point when they should be replaced?

The chains are solid, issues with chains are caused by bad 'oil management' - ie using the wrong oil/wrong filter etc. Just keep going until it starts to get noisy - hopefully it never will.

Edited : Just noticed, you say yours is a Type S, Petrol isn't it? They use a cam belt, there is no chain.

Alright boys...

From my understanding timing chains basically should just keep going as long as the engine is well maintained. When they go wear you being to hear an almost ticking type noise. If you hear this look at getting it done, but it could be very costly. I'd doubt that with proper servicing you'll see any problems ever, even at 200K+ on the mileage.

Don't worry mate, keep driving and if you ever hear a bit of a rattle or ticking get it looked at.

Oh, and I should stress that loads of things can cause a ticking, so don't panic if you hear it, just get it checked over .

Cheers guys lol, I was fairly confident it was a chain lol!
That's cool, my mates having a nightmare with his civic type r and he reckons the place he was at recommended getting it changed. No surprise there though lol!

As you can see it's a pretty solid chain. I think the diesel chaps have more problems with the chains, many threads on that.

On another note any one know a good source of air filters for these motors? Went to halfords as have a trade card but they don't stock them?
