Can anyone help me please, I have just bought a 56 plate Accord 2.2 CTDI Estate EX which has the Honda sat nav fitted as standard, I want to fit a reversing camera and use the sat nav screen as the monitor, can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to wire the camera to the back of the sat nav or the dvd disc player for the sat nav? I would be grateful for any advice I haven't removed anything yet to see if there are any spare input sockets on the rear. Also do I need a NTC or a PAL camera.

wow that's a good question. AFAIK it's not possible.

couple of threads that may be useful

Anything is possible Rick ;) . Welcome to TA. There's plenty of members who've done this modification and there are plenty of products that will work. Have a search around the forum. Use the Google Custom Search, not the forum's own search. For some reason it's really buggy and doesn't yield very good results.

Don't be afraid to resurrect old threads if necessary. Alternatively, if you're still stuck and can't find the info you need bump this thread you've started :) .

Thanks for all your advice, I now have the camera working and it was much easier than I expected, there was conflicting instructions on other sites, but just as a help to others here is what I did : Luckily I used to work in the Honda factory and still have contacts there so I managed to get hold of the correct green coupler with about 3" of wire connected to all the pins, I connected pin 4 to video ground, pin 5 to video positive (centre pin of phono plug), I joined pins 6 & 7 together with a link wire. Then connected the camera with a 12v supply through the cigar lighter just to test, it worked fine and came on when reverse was selected. Just to be clear the green socket is in the back of the dvd unit and not the sat nav head unit so not much work to get at it. Also I used a NTSC camera, I don't know if it will work with a PAL camera. Pins are numbered 1 to 7 from the left, when viewing the dvd unit from the rear.

Dude that's great news. By chance do you know if the prefacelift will allow a camera?

I don't know but I would suggest you have a look at the back of the dvd unit for the sat nav and see if it has the empty 7 pin green socket, if it has I can't see why not.

I don't think the pre-facelift has the green socket on the back of the DVD drive, which is a pain as I'd quite like to do this mod, but I think my car's too old.

However, this begs the questions, can the facelift DVD drive swap with the pre-facelift? If so, could you just get one from a breakers and get this hooked up? Or are there other things at play in the facelift that work towards the camera setup? For example, how does the console know it's in reverse and therefore know to switch the image? Is there a switch somewhere or something? If so, will the older cars have this?

I have a grim feeling the pre-facelift is a much more complicated job in this regards.

I think someone with a pre-facelift model should pull out the dvd and see what sockets are there, if it is as Alnug's link above that's great, Plug "B" has a what looks like a green wire with stripes, this is the reverse feed to the sat nav, you do not have to touch that wire (unless you want to power a wireless transmitter). But by linking wire between pins 6 & 7 in plug "A" this causes the sat nav screen to switch to camera view when reverse is selected.
One bonus when I did the job was there was an annoying rattle from the rear of the car and when I removed the top inner tailgate garnish there was a 6mm short bolt floating around in the garnish, the bolt was unused and had probably been dropped in the tailgate when built, it wouldn't got past the quality control if the car was built in Swindon, it would have been put on the shaker rig and found. Still it's great to have a silent car.
