mk8 Accord 2.2 Dtec
Hi all,

New on here, I've owned my 2008 GT ES 2.2 Dtec for around 2 years now with no issues at all!

I went to get a Remap on it the other week and when the guy unlocked the ECU found it had already had one, upping the power to around 185-190 and torque to 410-420Nm. Since he unlocked it I've plugged my scanner in to read the live data and found the EGR closed so the DPF must've been removed too!
This is all great TBH as i was thinking of having this done anyway, it's on 160K miles on the original clutch! it's only slipped when pulling in 6th at about 50mph (stupid i know but i couldn't be bothered to change gear lol)
I've read that a Type S clutch will fit but is there anything stronger on the market? I've seen the CG Motorsport 666 kit but have read mixed reviews on this. I wouldn't mind upping the power a bit more if i can, so wondering if the Type S clutch will be okay?

Also what other mods can be done to these engines? Will removing the standard air-box and fitting a cone filter help? Is this even a viable option?
Also putting a larger intercooler in and the OEM one is TINY!!!

Any help would be much appreciated, this is my first proper diesel as most of the stuff i have modified in the past has been old jap petrols!

Regards
Rob

I'm quite curious what more I can get out of it. I've gotten used to the power it now has, which is fine, but I like doing this sort of thing and if theres more power to be made by a few simple mods then I'll give it a go!

I'm wondering if anyone else has done more than just a map, EGR + DPR delete and their opinions. If no one has then I'll just go for it and see what happens! :)

Re: airbox and intercooler tbh from reading around the standard items are pretty efficient with no real gains from changing.

If it was me I'd speak to f6had on this forum about what's involved in a stage 2 remap as this involves mechanical upgrades I believe with the clutch needing upgrade.

I wouldn’t get involved with anything beyond our stage 2, good luck with it. It will be interesting to see how far you can safely push it.

What does your stage 2 map push it to and what needs doing to achieve this?

I feel that although it maybe efficient, the intercooler is very small for the engine/turbo size. I won't be going for anything massive that'll create a lot of turbo lag, but something slightly bigger and with a better cooling effect there should be some gains to be made. I can create a program in our fluid dynamics software at work to see if there's any theoretical gains in efficiency etc. It's in a really easy position to get too as well so changing it back to standard wouldn't take long if I find it's not worth it.
I'm thinking of increasing the core size from the 15-20cm standard to around 27cm, a bit of an increase in size but nothing dramatic where there will be much pressure losses.

As with the air intake, there's no aftermarket panel filters that I can find, I might put a cone filter on temporarily and see what effect that has, I will plug in my OBD scanner and log the live data to see the difference in air flow.
If there is an increase in intercooler size, then increasing the air flow wouldn't be a bad idea (if a cone filter actually works)

Cheers

On a stock idtec 200bhp. On a type S which has larger IC, different turbo core and uprated cylinder head around 232bhp peak.

Is it possible to fit the turbo core in a standard 150ho turbo? And do you know the difference in the cylinder head?
cheers

Straight swap but these parts are like rocking horse poo on the used market

Sorry for hijacking thread if came across a type s for breaking what would take off it , front calipers , Turbo , Cylinder head anything esle ?

Depends how far you wanted to go really but the intercooler would be my first choice.

Just a remap seems to get a standard 150hp dtec well over the power of the type s version (***uming it hasn't been mapped). I did also have a look at some type s parts to just swap out with however as you said @F6HAD there is nothing for sale hence I'm going to try out my own thing.
Depending on how well it goes i will put a part list together if anyone else fancies modifying they're accords more than just a remap. I'm going to get some mounts 3D printed for the new intercooler etc so if there is interest then i can get more made.
Does anyone know the diameter of the front intercooler hoses? There are connections on either side of the radiator for the hose that i will use and keep the rest standard (for now). I will probably need a reducer to get it to fit. Most of the intercoolers i have found have a 57mm inlet, i believe the accords use around 47mm?

I'm planning on putting the car on a rolling road soon to see what power it has currently with the map and EGR + DPF delete. When i fit the parts i will do another rolling road run and see what difference it has made prior to getting the map adjusted to suit the new parts and run again to see the max power gained :)

Cheers
Rob
