There is heavy corrosion on the chassis especially the rear and it's going to need a lot of welding to get through an MOT. The CAT also has a hole in it and is blowing so that needs replacing too. That's without anything else that might need doing too. It's just not worth spending the money on it unfortunately.

I've owned it for 11 years and it's been a great motor. The engine is on 137k miles. There is just over a weeks MOT left so it's going next week sometime.

I can get £300 scrap for it but we buy any car has offered £750, although it's likely to be half that once I take it down there and that's if I'm lucky! No harm in seeing what they actually offer first.

I did think about breaking it but there are barely any of these cars left now and looking on eBay parts don't sell.

It’s a shame Honda bodywork is not as strong as its engine and mechanicals.

If it's a K24 car it has to be worth at least £500 as an engine for someone's k-swap, surely? That being said, I think the problem now is the supply of shells to k-swap into, you can't pick up an EG or EK like you used to!

If you have a look on facebook there's a few k-swap groups maybe stick it up in there. Worth getting a quote for the repairs though, you never know!

Yes I've seen the engines sell on eBay for £600-£900 but they are out of the car and can be shipped. The whole car could sell for similar. I don't have the knowledge, tools or inclination to remove an engine. I can strip the rest of it just not the engine.

I was told the CAT is worth £250+ but I would need to give the V5 with it. If I do that I can't scrap the rest of the car without it. Unless I used someone dodgy!

I'll take it to WBAC and see how much they drop it first. If they were to offer around £500 I'd take that to save the hassle of selling it. I guess I can always park it up on the driveway and try to sell it privately before scrapping, nothing to lose. It would need to be trailered away as it's an auto so that's going to limit who buys it.

There is a fist sized hole on the rear sill and that's before they've even cut it back to the good metal. I've been told £250+ for that. Then the other side would need doing next year plus the front chassis rail is corroded. Then one of the rear arches is heavily rusted and has been taped up the last few years. I feel it's got to the point where I'd just be getting it welded every year!

I have a 25 year old MX5 that is rusty and has already had the rear sills welded. I really thought that car would go to rust before the Honda did.

Really ? The Tourer here has no problematic corrosion and rust (apart from surface stuff on the bonnet) is negligible

Has the K24 spent time near the coast ?

AFAIK my car hasn't lived by the sea. Spent time by the coast on holiday but that's it. It's pretty bad.

These photos were taken a year a go. The arrow pointing to the hole is now fist sized, likely to be much larger. The other side is going the same way, no hole yet but pretty spongy!

Holy Batman! On a first inspection it looks terminal and odd as I have nothing like that here. It does look like the original treatment by the factory has been removed, why is only known to the previous owners.

Is the offside subframe anywhere near as bad ?

It's not the subframe but the sills. The rear by the arches is the worse but the metal is pretty soft all the way along towards the front.

I went down to WBAC earlier. Price online was £745, then it got knocked down to £271!

It'll be going on eBay this weekend hopefully.
