Thanks for that. The DIY is really useful. I have managed to take one side panel off and had a look. I'm going to try to move the strut mounting point lower down the hinge to see if it will open the boot automatically without the need for the extra spring.

I broke into the red part and took the innards out to use the vehicle connection. I can just buy another to put it back to standard if and when.

I did a slight modification to mine after drilling them out as they still weren't bright enough.

Mine was the same until I drilled them out. I didn't know I had them until I looked up at the trim under the steering wheel.

The blue bit on mine look similar to the piece that is sticking up from your trim panel. It just comes out with a quarter turn.

After looking at the pictures. It is the holder that Brett has left in place on the trim panel that is solid.

It was me. The holder for the LED was solid so it had to shine through it. It looks like Brett's holder isn't like mine. I'll dig out the photos.
