Ambiant foot lighting

I didn't even realise i had this on my car....... just been to have a look and sure enough the led's are there but not very bright!

Super bright LED's plus my soldering iron i think!

I'm sure there was a past membe of THAOC who drilled the whole bigger which sorted it. Shame we can't search.

It was me. The holder for the LED was solid so it had to shine through it. It looks like Brett's holder isn't like mine. I'll dig out the photos.

After looking at the pictures. It is the holder that Brett has left in place on the trim panel that is solid.

Andy the pink holder of yours is almost the same as mine.Mine clips without your blue bit onto a removable panel.
Then the light shines through a clear plastic on the panel the size of a 1p.
Im thinking if i cut out the clear plastic or drill it might get a better light output.

Right guys just an update my holder is the same as Andy's.Iv just drilled a 3.5 mm hole for a start to see the light output tonight.
I will get some pics up when it gets dark and compare with the other side.If i need a bigger hole i will do this tonight as well.

Great stuff - looking forward to seeing the results!

I cant wait till it gets dark now :D

Do all Ex's have these - I was thinking about lighing up the footwells, centre copnsole pockets and door pockets - but was wondering how to get the brighter-with-door-open effect (note teh Audi someone mentioned - 2 bulbs - of course).

I'll have to have a closer look in the footwells .... I'm not aware of anything that lights up - not even in the glove-box!

Cheers,

The blue bit on mine look similar to the piece that is sticking up from your trim panel. It just comes out with a quarter turn.

I think the foot well lighting is only 8th gen and not 7th.

Mine's an 8th ( I think - Sept 2008) and I'm not aware of even a glimmer in the footwells .. gonna have a look in the garage with the doors shut!

I'll let you know .....

Cheers

Mine was the same until I drilled them out. I didn't know I had them until I looked up at the trim under the steering wheel.

Get your head underneath the foot well with your lights on.If you look directly above the peddles you will see a blue light if you have it.

I did a slight modification to mine after drilling them out as they still weren't bright enough.

Nice Blackpool eliminations eat your heart out B)
Did these fit the original connector or was this modded

I broke into the red part and took the innards out to use the vehicle connection. I can just buy another to put it back to standard if and when.

Looks really good mate i tell you a good thing as well you can even dim them if you want.
From the little switch on the dash next to the speedo.

Hmmmm ... I found the 'lamp' ... it's just as you suggested except it sits in a black plastic housing and there's only the faintest hint of light!

The LED is naturally blue so I'll chop a hole in the black plastic holder and give the 0.00001 candella half a chance!

There's also a tiny blue LED shining through the plastic between the roof spotlights and I've found the orangy glimmer that lights (?) up the glovebox (doesn't dim with panel dimmer)

So I'll have a closer look at all the bits and see if I can add a couple more candellas here and there

Any ideas how to light up the little pockets either side of the centre console??

Thanks Mr Fizz & Brett ...

The difference is quite remarkable - who ever thought a tiny LED would shine through black plastic and be useful????

Thanks for the pointers Guys ... nice 20mins in the sunshine - here in the English Riviera on a Bank Holiday Monday - looking forward to the dark now ...
