New/upcoming MOT changes targeting dpf removal

Is it me or is this latest initiative to target removal of dpfs more real than previous attempts? Seems like at some point in 2027, the test will include a measurement of actual particulate numbers, which would make it impossible to pass if your dpf has somehow gone walkies.
I did read that it's not certain whether the new rules would be applied to vehicles registered before 2013.
What's everyone's thoughts on what to do if we end up being subject to the new tests?
 
when it actually happens, then it becomes real. Until then it’s really nothing new.
 
Let's say hypothetically that my car has had the dpf removed and been remapped . If it fails the mot could I fit a cheapish new dpf so it passes?
I'm guessing the remap will have rendered the ash counter redundant so would any emls flash up?

Hypothetically, you have little chance of getting fined.

This report, referenced directly from the government web page on DPFs suggests research has still not identified loss of life as a result of particulates from saloon cars.

Visible smoke is still the fundamental MOT test for ICE cleanliness.

Note, agricultural and offroad (plus military) vehicles along with aircraft remain outside emission testing.

Among jet aircrafts there are differences between civil and military jet engines and their fuels. Combustion of jet fuel results in CO2, H2O, CO, C, NOx, particles and a great number of organic compounds. Among the emitted hydrocarbons (HCs), no compound (indicator) characteristic for jet engines could be detected so far. Jet engines do not seem to be a source of halogenated compounds or heavy metals. They contain, however, various toxicologically relevant compounds including carcinogenic substances. A comparison between organic compounds in the emissions of jet engines and diesel vehicle engines revealed no major differences in the composition.

Instead of gutting the dpf leave it intact and replace it with a piece of pipe with correct flanges on both ends so it can be swapped quickly. Common with cats on petrol cars come MOT day.
