Headlight are H1 bulbs.

Is it worth a custom stainless job? Obviously will cost more but will outlast the car. I've found aftermarket stuff just doesn't last these days.

I think just to clarify it's LHD only the dash must not be symmetrical not that I've noticed when doing my tablet install (which I really should get on an finish).

I'm not sure where you're located but be aware they don't fit the UK model according to the sellers.

I'd get a battery checkup have had new battery from halfords in the past that was dodgy and had to be replaced so wouldn't rule it out. Why did you change battery? Might have been the alternator causing issues and old battery might have been OK.

I would do headlight restoration afterwards personally as its important not to touch the inside of the lens as cleaning them inside in anyway is a nightmare waiting to happen. I shrink wrapped mine so there was no rush but have decided to redo as I've found and purchased new (8th gen) lenses...

The other option is picture wire drill 2 small holes in the light bezels then twist the wire to hold the angel eyes on. That seems to be the preference of pro builders when I looked into it.

As long as you keep the heat gun moving and away from the front of the lens your safe. Once separated the u channel of the lights will be a bit messy but a bit of heat will make it look better and when refitted this won't be seen anyway. I've managed to source new lenses for my 8th gen on...
