Hi Taffytim, I had the same dilemma and went for the iPod version. It allows me to control the ipod via the buttons on the steering wheel (e.g. volume, previous/next track). You can shuffle between the iPod playlists using the buttons on the FIS. Once connected via the xcarlink, you cannot use...

I highly recommend the xcarlink. I followed the instructions and set it up myself. You can then use the car audio control buttons to change music on your ipod/iphone.
