Have glow plug code on diagnostics, power to all connectors but glow plugs themselves not working, Will this cause car to not start,

If it is cold the car will not start.

The glowplugs are connected in parallel, there is a chance one of them is a direct short to earth, you could check by disconnecting each one until the others start glowing.

Ok so a chat with a local diesel injection specialist steered me away from glow plugs for the time being, he and others suggested injector issues, so I got to know Bosch common rail as best I could and found no4 injector leak back excessive, plus live data shows that the requested fuel rail pressure is not being met on turnover, intact it’s about half what it should be, when easy start is used while reading rail pressure, once it starts to fire the extra turn over speed achieves the 300bar requested fuel pressure and she starts and runs , but to complicate things further it will not rev past 2k rpm , has anyone input on this or what I have discovered? Thanks

Need yere input guys I think this car has multiple issues, glow plugs, injector, plus limp mode, is like to not be a parts changer if possible thanks

Whoever suggested Easystart as a fix should be shot at dawn. You may be able to claim part cost of replacement of the top end if they are running a business in car repairs.

Easystart is a death sentence. DO NOT USE. SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE IN LIMP MODE. When was the fuel filter last changed?? also how good is your battery!

Totally agree on the easy start.

not sure what input we can give you here mate. You’ve done a leakback and identified a bad injector so change that first. Solve your glow plug issue too and then see where you land and take it from there. It’s a process of elimination and you should always deal with the issues that you can see first.

what other diagnostic errors are stored?

2 things I’ve been aware of the downsides of easy start before I was a teenager, I’ve never owned a can it just so happens that the car was brought to me by means of starting it with easy start, I spent a whole day trying to diagnose the car without using it, live data became important during the process so it was used and I gathered the information I needed.

2 you didn’t even try or bother to help get this car up and running on a forum that caters for one model from one manufacturer, when I seen that someone had replied I was curious, but you just pointed out the obvious, not everyone is a mechanic, i am, but just for your sake I’ll go out of my way to not use it, thanks

Thank you , I will try source an injector tomorrow, talking to the owner today I explained that glow plugs need doing after injector, thanks for being helpful

Owner is unaware about easy start, have not investigated fuel filter but I seem to recall a flashing glow plug symbol relating to fuel supply issues after searching the net, battery was put on charge, plus I tried to start car with charger on start setting, I don’t think it’s cranking speed related but I will check cranking rpm tomorrow with autocom,
Thanks

Car came to me not starting hot or cold , with only glow plug circuit code stored , there in need of changing badly, no other codes,

I had similar low fuel pressure issues and after changing the filter and the rail pressure sensor it was the injectors. All four required overhauling!

I wouldn't be so noxious when asking for help from a relatively new (to you) source

Thanks I’m aware of the fuel filter issue, and also the rail pressure sensor, no4 injector is returning a lot more than the 10cc a minute stated acceptable by Bosch , the other 3 are within spec, the rail can only achieve about 120/150 bar cranking because of the leak back on no4, was your case a non start issue too?

No malice intended, just need suggestions, I can add to the forum too, I’ll be more careful and refrain from stating the obvious

Hopefully will get my hands on a replacement injector today if all goes well

No mine didn't get to non-start but was a low fuel pressure warning which caused limp home modes.

Had the injectors asessed by a diesel specialist and they were all reduced flow and excess return.

You ignored the suggestion in post 3, when the only issue raised was glow plugs.
The fuelling system has a mechanically driven pump, low pressure can be caused at front (slow cranking) , middle (rotor scoring) or back (leaks).

Scrub the terminals/earthing points, then use a larger battery since this could eliminate cranking speed and glow plug trouble. It could also reduce potentially misleading fault codes and if you are really, really lucky it will improve the injector firing and offset leakage as a root cause.

Being a garage mechanic and not just another owner you would know all the above, including the potential for easystart to sodomise camchain tensioners, injectors and valve timing.

Ah, 2000rpm rev limit......

Will stick in a set of glow plugs in time, plus new battery, car start ok ish with bad glow plugs , but starts from cold every time no matter how long I leave it sitting

Now that car starts the timing chain sounds terrible, so bad it sounds like it could pack up, when warm it’s worse, starting to question reliability of these engines, not to offend anyone

It’s more likely you’ve damaged it yourself chucking easy start into it mate, and it’s probably been run on the wrong oil. I’ve seen these engines regularly do over 300k miles and the highest I’ve seen is 470k miles and going strong.

What was the issue in the end, glow plugs?

I’ve no idea how long he’s been using easy start, I just used it twice, sounds awfull

Does anyone have advice for me on removing injectors, tried letting it run with it loose no joy , all help appreciated

Sorry to hear your problems, any update on this? I managed to loosen an injector by driving it with the clamp undone somewhat, drove it to work and back no problem and it came out fairly easily. I must add that these engines are a peach if looked after.

Tried everything I’m willing to try, loose clamp running/driving. Trying to rotate it , soaked in diesel, then carb cleaner , no budge, it will bubble a little when I have it soaked when running
