Good evening, I am a newbie member. I have an 04 plate accord which has had the engine management light on twice in the last two days.
It resets by starting / stopping with 3 > 30 sec intervals. I take it this is a sensor on the way out ( hopefully not cat or ECU) I love my accord and was thinking about
dropping the suspension and getting wheels refinished.
Do I have to take this to Honda dealer or can it be tested else where.
Cars done about 80K miles. been serviced as per book for the last 2 years since I have been owner.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

Cheers doug.

Best to invest in an OBD reader. Until you know what the code is relating to the light you will only be guessing.

Welcome to TA BTW.

If its just the checklight popping up, but no physical running probs ( eg smoking or hesitation ), then my money is on it being the IMRC control valve ( fault code P2004 ). Its a little Denso solenoid valve on top of the engine which costs approx £120 and takes minutes to fit.

Try and get the ecu fault codes read before you spends your money though...

hi and welcome, as the guys have said get the fault code read and go from there.

get some pics up too of your motor

Although a guess, I would also say IMRC - probably stuck either in open or closed position.

Get the codes read and then take it from there.

Welcome to TA as the guys said above really

Hi everybody, thanks for the welcome, I have two codes P1248 and P2138 I believe they point to the pedal position sensor. I have reset these codes and monitoring.
Any history for these anyone.

Cheers Doug.

Not sure of Pedal position, but throttle position sensor is relatively common. DIsconnect the TPS plug in the engine bay (above the fusebox), give it a good clean with electrical contact cleaner and try refitting..

Thanks, tried this and fault hasn't returned. Still monitoring.
cheers for your help everyone.

Doug.

Good evening boys,
Same faults returned again tonight.
I take it I should replace the pedal sensor, where is the best place to get one?

I would try cleaning it again very thoroughly. A new TPS will be expensive, best get a used one from the breakers.
