Hi this is my first post.I have a 05 2.2 ctdi which i have owned since new.About a month ago i filled up at at supermarket,very rare for me,so i used some diesel cleaner.About 3 weeks later shortly after setting off in the morning i went to accelerate in 2nd from low revs and it was very sluggish,the revs built up and all was ok.this happened a few times in the next week and a short lack of acceleration has continued intermittently.After not using the car for 24hrs the car started with extra smoke but did not want to rev cycling up and down until eventually getting back to normal,and is now slowly getting worse.I work at a honda dealer and watched a techie do all the tests with the hds and the only thing obvious was high fuel rail pressure.We decided to replace the fuel filter as a first step but to no avail.Like most dealers only genuine parts are fitted so it seems that to keep costs down its down to me to sort out things from now on.I am ***uming that the most likely cause is around the the fuel rail in the relief valve or pressure sensor?. Am i barking up the wrong tree?I am not a technician but can get help from the guys at work. I have read the article on relief valve testing and was going to do this first unless someone can say this is not the way forward. Does anyone have the bosch part no for the relief valve? All help much appreciated.

Does the car give any diagnostic errors? Failing the fuel rail pressure test may be a red herring. I've seen cars fail this but a different problem may be causing the issue. If swapping to a new genuine fuel filter hasn't helped them I suspect a leaking egr valve is the cause.
Try temporarily blanking it and see if it restores the power. If so then you can book with me for a permanent EGR off solution or replace the valve.

F6HAD thx for your reply,no dtc was recorded and a genuine filter was fitted,the car also always starts ok from hot and the lack of power is only when cold rarely when hot.The egr test on hds was ok.Will try blanking off and maybe relief vave test if no good,many thx.
The problem with the egr test on the HDS is that it's effectively really just an actuator test. If there is a minor EGR leak, or if the egr is slow operating due to a damaged plunger shaft then again the hds won't always pick it up.
Best way to eliminate it as a likely cause is to simply blank it and try running it. You'll end up throwing the car into limp mode but if the power has returned then you know what the cause is.

Thanks once again for your reply.As i havent driven the car for 24hrs i just went out and started it,it idled rough so had a look under the bonnet and every time the aircon cut in and put load on the engine smoke came up from the left rear of the engine and stopped when the compressor cut out,hopefully that will be an obvious clue as to the problem?Will get the guys to have a look on monday and will report what they find(hopefully),nothing is guaranteed in this world!
I would guess its exhaust type smoke,i just tried it again with the engine top cover off but it started normally and no smoke,one thing i did notice which may or may not be normal is when i turn the engine off there is a sshh noise,perhaps its not audible with the cover on?
