2.2 i-CTDi oil

0W-30 oils are thin on the ground where I am. The spec I run is C2, but not because it is C2. It's just the best price 0W-30 I can find.

It's the oil this brand recommends for the iDtec engine, which is the only diesel Honda marketed here.

C2 is a fuel economy spec IMHO, My Fiat Campervan calls for 5w30 C2 as well, but I am running a C3 5w40 as fuel economy isn't a big concern for me.

Oil ****ysis does not provide the required information on the oils performance. This can only be done by its performance in standard engine tests and that is what the A5, B5 represents.

The 2.2 is a very ‘sooty’ engine and so you need an oil that can handle all the soot that is produced over a long duration which is the opposite to what a race oil is designed for.

Look for a Long life 0W-30 oil with A5,B5 credentials. I will look in the garage later and tell you what I currently use.
Hello. Did you manage to find out what you use, im guessing you have a 2.2 non dpf?

Is the lube tech drum still a favourite here? I'm thinking of going for castrol edge ***anium volvo oil a5/b5 0w-30 from halfords

Would this be suitable please?

My car(2008 gen 7 accord 2.2 i-cdti) has 94k and it's last service was done by pre owners garage which used 5 - 30w@88k.

Thanks

It will be fine, although a cheaper 20l drum of any 0w30 fully synthetic will be just fine off eBay

Hey, thanks for the reply.

When you say any 0w-30 oil off ebay, I take it it must have the a5/b5 markings?

Thanks

I use to get the 20 litre drum from lube tech, but I have stopped buying it due to the lack of space to store a drum now.

I just buy Mannol 0w 30 oil from carousel Parts on ebay.
Ebay always does 20% off vouchers so it works around quite cheap for 6 liters delivered.
I changed the oil 3 times a year every 6000 miles - I do approx 20k a year

I've been running this oil for 2 years now and has been perfect
Just clocked over 300k miles on the Accord

Hey, I've already ordered the drum. The Mannol oil you mentioned doesn't seem to be a5/b5 spec., I'm guessing your accord hasn't got a Dpf?
I don't know much about oil but the info in this thread says you need a5/b5 if you have no dpf.

300k is top! Have you owned it all those 300k?

The Mannol oil is a c2/c3 rated oil so pretty sure it exceeds the requirements of a a5/b5 spec as it is meant for diesel cars with a DPF.

Any 0w 30 oil is fine for the ICTDI engine, the 0w 30 is the important bit of the oil.
Change it regularly and the ICTDI engine will chug on forever - Dont listen to Honda's 12k oil change interval.
Change it every 6 to 7k miles.

Its a very sotty engine so the oil breaks down fast and the protection is lost quickly hence the 6/7k oil changes

I bought my Accord in 2014 @ 90k miles - So i have done 210k on it.

Yep Correct, the ICTDI diesel has no DPF (Years 2003 to 2008)
The IDTEC honda diesel has the DPF (Accord 2009 - 2013)

Can you explain the 'sooty' engine claim ? From what I was supplied by the local Honda dealer a few years back the i-ctdi was one of the best emission powerplants of the 2000s, easily meeting Euro4 , and if maintained with modern fluids, 715/2007, (or Euro 5).
