2004 Accord 2.2 cdti
Hi
My first proper posting.
I have recently bought a
Honda accord 2.2 diesel estate 2004 as a non runner.
Two previous owners have had a go at it and now it is my turn.

Basically it turns over fires and will not run.

Here is a list of work that has been carried out.

Crank sensor replaced.
Camshaft sensor replaced.
New genuine fuel filter.
Injectors removed and tested 3 ok and one replaced.
New fuel pump.
New pressure sensor.
New metering unit.
New pressure relief valve.
Replaced engine wiring loom.
compression test.
second hand Ecu and imobiliser programmed by Honda.
Timing checked and chains replaced.
Rigged up separate fuel tank.
New battery
Will run for a short time on brake cleaner.
Exhaust front pipe removed to check for blockage.

I am an ex toyota mechanic and have come to a stage that I can not think of anything else.
Even a friend of a friend from Honda who programmed every thing is stumped.

I hope people on this great forum can help me out. I have spent many hours looking through this site.
I don't want this to beat me like it has to the others.

without meaning to sound rude, a diesel only needs two things to run; fuel and compression.

You know you have ample compression as you've tested it, so you've a fuel problem.

It says you've tested the injectors, but I'm ***uming this means with them out of the car?

When the fuel system's been removed you have to crank it for what seems like an eternity to get from the fuel pump to the cylinders.
Reckon mine took a good 3-4 minutes of me cranking constantly it till it fired after I did my motor swap.

I gave up once, walked off and made a cuppa.
Went back, cranked it some more and it fired.

That was 22k ago now, and it's been sweet since.

Totally agree with Matt.

What diagnostic errors do you have, and is fuel present at the rail when you crank?

Forgot to say that there are no fault codes.

Injectors were sent away to be tested after a spill test was carried out as No 1 had a higher volume of spill.

Will try cranking it over for longer and not burn the starter out, more expense.

Fingers crossed she runs.
Been asked this before, and it was just a case of cranking the guts out of it till it went.
Hope it's the same for you.

Did you try to bleed the injectors and the fuel filter?
Test the max preasure valve on the common rail?
Or it could be a stupid thing like exhaust is blocked

Cranked it over for ages tonight and got fault code p0335
Going to check crank sensor and wiring. Hopefully it's not the sensor disc.

Fuel rail sensor ? pipework to fuel filter back to front ? has it been bled by the bulb and the bleed nut nipped up ?, pull the cam sensor and see if its covered in oil, give it a wipe and put back, it can give the same symptom.

Depending on the mileage the intake manifold, swirl pot, and EGR valve get SERIOUSLY gunked up, once you get it running consider doing these items, you will not believe the amount of crud the intake manifold holds, or understand how it ran at all.

If you can arrange it, trying a tow start may be better than overheating/ cabbaging the started motor.

P0355 reads as :-

 Faulty crankshaft position sensor
- Crankshaft position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Crankshaft position sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Signal plate may be damaged
- Starter motor may be faulty
- Starting system circuit
- Dead or weak battery

If the injectors have been out, make sure they are refitted perfectly with new seals and seated correctly. You need to log the fuel pressures, I suspect it's a fuelling issue.

I note you say it starts with easy start so you can eliminate a blocked exhaust or inlet, my money is on fuelling.

The crank sensor is likely a red herring as they can throw this error up after long cranking and failing to start.

Do double check the timing as that will affect the injector firing frequency and even a tooth out will cause it to fail to start as the injectors may be firing too early or late.

Had a diesel specialist friend of mine plug in a snap on diagnostic.
Getting 50mpa on cranking target said 60mpa.
Carried out spill test no 1 cylinder had the highest spill which is the new one.
We have now taken all the injectors out and he was going to take them away and test them at his workshop.

Well there you go. Sounds like you're getting somewhere now pal

Found out where they are, drivers side kick panel above fuses. Please can someone have a look at there's and let me know if they have a relay in the bottom left hand corner fuel pump and f1 main as mine are missing but showing on the wiring diagram.

hope this helps the box is under the drivers side dash, left of steering wheel. If you have a drivers handbook there is a better guide. This lot relates to a diesel tourer

Thanks for all the information. I have the wiring diagrams from which I can see that there is two PGM f1 relays listed but looking at mine they are missing. I would like to check with other people what they have fitted.
