2007 honda accord 2.2 diesil fuel problem

my 2007 honda accord cuts at around 4.000 rpm the cranks over for ages to start,it also goes into limp mode,when plugged in says fuel rail pressure,when the code is cleared its fine for a short time then either goes into limp mode were wont rev over 2k but if u give it a lot of throttle it stops as if the fuel is cut off then takes ages to start,the garage have had my car for 7 weeks,do u think it could be an electrical problem? the garage has changed the fuel pump to a high pressure fuel pump and i dont know the brand but it was £400,the injectors have been tested and are fine,the tanks been off and its clean,its had a new filter housing and filter and full service,it was taken into honda and there technical diagnostic which cost £160 came up with fuel rail or injectors,the garage were it is now said it cant be the fuel rail as its just a piece of metal but changed the sensor,im at my whits end
 
If you are able take a look at the fuel filter it should be a bosch and a number 442 on it, the forum is full of fuel related probs and most of them are down to wrong fuel filter fitment by "trained" techies.
 
the garage say they have put three fuel filters on up to now,does the problem ive posted sound as it mite be the filter as u said
 
Facelift models have Denso filters. But I would be prepared to bet money that the problem here (long crank times due to low fuel pressure) will either be caused by...

one or more fuel injectors having excessive leak back, or

the fuel rail over-pressure relief valve (on drivers side end of rail) is leaking.

Both the above are very common problems that are very easy to test as a DIY job. In fact a combined flow test on all 5 fuel tank returns makes sense... takes about 30 minutes and only needs some tubing and plastic containers. I'm unable to post links, but use the TA search facility yourself (top right of this page) to search for 'rail valve' (making sure you select 'forums') and you will find the thread on diagnosing this valve leaking... a very common problem on this engine! YouTube has vids on doing an injector leak back test... a very common problem on all common rail diesels (and do search TA again for 'injector leak' to find more useful several threads on this). These tests are similar in that they ***ess how much fuel is being allowed to run back to the fuel tank and should be combined... for the injectors (which always have some degree of leak back) you are looking for the one which leaks much more than the others, and this will be obvious when all the returns are routed to individual plastic containers and the engine cranked (or even started).

Replacement of worn injectors can be tricky if they become stuck in, but is still possible as a DIY. Replacement of the fuel rail over-pressure valve is very simple (get a cheap replacement from Bosch, as Honda do not stock it and will make you buy the entire rail which is very expensive).

I'm Shocked that a garage would replace the fuel pump before doing a leak off/leak back test. BTW, the fuel pump is a combined low pressure (for raising the fuel from the tank) and high pressure injection pump in the one housing.
 
Jon I have the same problem with posting links in internet explorer but not in Chrome. Try using a different browser..
 
Hi Fahad. We run a business from home and use all our home IT for business purposes... I wouldn't want to alter the way any of them function, as all other software and internet sites we use work pretty well (although my study PC does actually work OK with this site).

Surely there must be a fix available for the TA forum software to allow it to work with what must be one of the world's most popular operating systems? Or maybe a download to fix a problem with my OS?
 
Jon I think it has something to do with a specific revision of internet explorer as I can only replicate it on my home pc but none of my laptops have the issue and all are on windows 7..

We have raised with the forum software provider but no fix yet as they haven't been able to replicate..
 
Thanks Fahad. Actually, in my case, it's the laptop running Windows 7/i.e.11 that's the problem!

My old XP desktop/i.e.8 is fine (but then I can't sit on a comfy sofa with the TV on and access the forum).
 
thank for the replys and info,it was the non return valve on the fuel rail,its been ordered and being shipped from japan as theres non in the uk,£920+vat.thanks to all
 
The rail doesn't have a non-return valve, but it does have an over-pressure/pressure relief valve. The rail, and all its components, is made by Bosch and would therefore come from Germany if none in the UK!

Is it too late to cancel? I did mention that the parts should be bought from Bosch in my earlier post, as Honda will only supply the whole rail at this stupidly high price. The valve on its own would cost around a tenth of that price and the labour for fitting just the valve would also be around a tenth... or it's actually a very easy DIY.
 
Cancel the order as Jon says and either source new from Bosch or even used from a breaker
