5.9 litres?

OK so I did my first oil change, seemed to go OK, but I put in 5.5 litres and didn't see anything on the stick, then I put in the rest and ran it, left it, ran it again, it's been left for about 2 hours and checked and it's still about 2/3s between min and max. Is that right? It's on level ground, is my dipstick too short? :D

It's been losing a bit of oil, it was down to almost halfway between min and max, which I thought was half a litre (in 1000 miles), is that right? So that means I'd have to put in another 300-400ml of oil to get it up to level?

Hoping it won't lose so much now I've changed it, also hoping it'll run a bit quieter.
 
Losing 0.5 litres in 1k miles is a lot for this engine in my opinion.. yes it should be 5.9 litres including the filter but that's in a 'bare' engine. Remember you'll probably 200-300ml left from the old oil which is why you never put the full 5.9 litres in just like that..

Where is the oil going? is it burning or leaking?
 
Haven't seen any leaks, no smoke either, seems like some of these engines are just bad eggs and lose oil - Honda obviously know that with the rule of up to 1litre in 600 miles being acceptable (whether it's 'right' or not).

Why would my oil still be low after putting in 5.9l then? Nothing on the ground or dripping out - plus I can't imagine it'd lose 300ml within a couple of hours unless it was coming out the sump plug or something (it isn't).
 
I wouldn't bother too much about it.
I measured every litre I put in the engine the last time I changed the oil and I can tell you it was more than 6 litres.
As long as it keeps it inside and it's on the right level on the dipstick in cold, don't worry.

I agree with Nuno, it might be best leave it just now and see what happens...in the past I have found the level has risen a bit after my first run in the car for some reason, & in the meantime it's better below the max than above it.
 
Definitely agree with that, as long as it's over the minimum and below the maximum... just leave it be and keep an eye on it.
 
Just been for a spin to pick up the wife, seems quieter already, will check oil in the morning. MOT tomorrow though, not due for a month but with my torque steer I'd like to get my offside bushes checked so I can complain to the garage we bought it from! :)
 
Torque steer is commonly due to tyres.
Has Bridgestones re050 and torque steer was like hell. I have michelins now and it completely disappeared
 
Yeah I did just get new tyres (continental) but cos I had pulling to the right before and full alignment hasn't fixed it, search on here shows compliance bush on the 'pulling' side can cause torque steer, compliance bush looks ok but worth getting them to check.
 
Sailed through MOT with no issues, they checked all the bushes extra carefully and said there's nothing wrong with any of them, so must be my new tyres I guess.
 
Yep, probably they have stiffer sidewalls. At least you are not wasting anymore money.
 
5.9 litres of oil in a well drained engine should sit exactly half way between the min & max line on the dipstick.

Ooh that's interesting. Does that mean that above halfway is technically overfilled slightly? And the MAX line is just the DO NOT GO OVER THIS LINE point cos then it's much too overfilled?
So the cars that lose oil, maybe they lose it down to halfway then lose less after that.
 
No, It's the goldilocks zone.
