Hi All,

I am looking at buying a 2.2 diesel in executive spec, but I have some questions first:

From what year did the car receive facelift revisions and what were the revisions?

Do these cars tell you what mpg you are doing as this is quite important to me?

I have found an 04 plate with just 67k on the clock, the history is ok but in some instances the services have been left over a year due to the low mileages, is this a problem?

Thanks
Mike

The facelift came in at '55 -I just missed out with my '05. That said I'd check if your proposed purchase is before an '06 just to be certain. I went for the older lower mileage car. Could have had a newer higher mileage for the same money. Haven't regretted my decision yet.

My pre-facelift doesn't give MPG, but I write my fill-up mileage on the fuel receipt and spreadsheet it at home. Arguably more accurate that way anyhow. I've a feeling the facelift might. Someone will be along shortly and confirm no doubt ;-)

You get a different fuel filter on the facelift diesel and slightly different headlights. IMO the facelift sidelights look a bit nicer, and I think the indicators have clear lenses rather than amber (I rather like the amber though). I think there are other changes but are mostly cosmetic.

Personally if the services are genuine with the right oil I might risk it. If it's a DIY or backstreet job without convincing receipts leave it. Another will come along before too long.

Have a search (but don't necessarily be put off by) the 7th Gen fault section. If your car has had a VSA, timing chain, manifold, clutch you've got less to worry about. Mine has had none of the above and doesn't (touch wood) need them either -just some £xpensive jobs to be aware of.

I believe the 2004 2.2 had a slightly dodgy timing chain, can't remember if Honda cover this under an extended warranty?

67k is low for a 10 year old car, has it had many owners and does the mot history look ok when checked with the service history?

My 06 facelift trip computer tells me:

Live fuel consumption (on the move).
Remaining miles (estimate) to the next refill.
Average mpg
Average speed
Time of journey (since the engine started)

I can take some photos of it you need mate

Most facelifts are on a 06 plate or newer though you might find some on a 55
Having owned both I would go for a facelift every time.
Extras include the 6 speed gearbox, trip computer, better satnav, and a nicer steering wheel. Chrome is also moved from the bonnet to the grill.

I paid £3800 for mine

I think there had a grey one in Lincolnshire for about the same price as mine

Mine is an 05 Sport import from England and came with full Honda History when I got it in 2007 with 70k.Now has 175k, new clutch/flywheel, driveshafts, and exhaust mani replacement under warentee.
I wish it had the 6spd box, and I don't like the skinny steering wheel.
Otherwise I think it's a great car and I would buy another.

It looks very clean, but you can get a 06 but higher mileage with this price. It's Honda own develop engine, so it is very reliable.

Besides, you will lose the value on this 04 quickly. My workmate bought one similar price and mileage to this last year, and he lost a grand when he sold it in January.

Although the mileage is vital, but the age also reflects the current value as well. For example: A football club would spend £30M on a 27 years old striker who is player every single match, rather than on a 34 years old who is a current top scorer in the league.

PS: I bought my car £3800 4 weeks ago. It's 06 with 124k on the clock.

I am not sure the footballer comparison really works in this instance but I see your point. I am not interested in this car because of the mileage, it is the overall condition of the car that is appealing and after having spoken with the dealer I am even more convinced. I would like a newer model but I am struggling to find anything within 100 miles of me that appeals other than this one at the moment.

What is better an older car with low miles, or a newer car with high miles? It's horses for courses in my opinion. The most important thing for me is condition of the car, and reliability.

Hi, if you like you can buy OBD II bluetooth dongle from ebay for less than £10 and use an Android phone or tablet with one of many free and paid apps. It will show you consumption, speed, throttle, coolant temp., acceleration, time for 1/4 mile, can also check for engine errors and many many more...
It works well with my '04 Accord 2.4 i-VTEC Ex Auto. Dongle is plugged into service socket behind coin storage box.
By the way I bought my Accord week ago with 47000 miles (10 years old) on the clock and apart from few minor cosmetic issues I'm very happy with it :)
Regards

I didn't buy it, but only because it sold before I could get there. I live in the south east, everything is expensive here, including cars.

I lived in Northern Ireland. Although it's part of UK, but the price of second vehicles are higher than mainland.
For this reason, I flew to Leicester to buy my Accord. The same as my Celica which bought from Edinburgh 3 years ago
