I called my thread this because I didn't know if you could swear on here.

I have had me Accord Tourer 07 plate (88k) for less than 2 weeks and as I left the drive to go and see a client tonight the "Check System" warning light came on.

I called my local Honda dealer and they want £90 + VAT to have a look and see what may be wrong with it. I do have an extended warranty so not that worried about getting it fixed but I have had the car 2 weeks, been driving it like an old man, getting 55 mpg average so its not like I have been gunning it, and this happens. Plus the garage I bought it off say they serviced it so I am really angry with them.

Can anyone help with:

1) what the most likely reason is (it went on literally as I started the car)

2) how I get the light off, I read something about turning the engine off 3 times but I have stopped at a couple of shops and my clients house and it is still on.

3) I have a couple of errands to run tomorrow and cannot get the car to the dealer fro diagnostic until Friday so is it ok to drive if I don't push it?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

do you have the triangle/VSA light on too? could be the VSA modulator gone duff....

It is annoying that the car can say "Check System" but can not give the code. There is no reason for this other than income protection for manufacturers. Surely though you could pop into a tame local garage and get them to plug the car into their OBD reader.

I too was disgusted at the cost of getting this done - so bought my own reader. It will pay for itself within the first to uses.

Probably not much use to you now though :(

looks like you need the codes to be read... if your local Honda want that much then you will be best off going to a local specialist with say a snap on OBD reader that will tell you the problem....

if you have extended warranty does this also cover the scan as well if not i would ask the question

Sorry to hear this, always gutting straight after a new purchase.

Is the check light effecting the performance of the car in anyway? Do you have the manual for the car? Always best to check in there what manual recommends to do when that light comes on? Is there away to clear the light with out visiting the dealer?

I know I've had the flashing glow plug light before now. Checking in the maunal you clear the warning, a combination of starts with the ignition key. Maybe there is something similar (in Finland at the moment or I would have had a look at my manual). The error will still be recorded even if the light doesn't come on again. As I had a code stored from year and half ago (expect fuel pressure low - resolved by using a Bosch Honda supplied fuel filter) but had cleared it using the method in the manual previously.

Hope you get it sorted without too much fuss and the minimum (if any) cash being spent.

I have tried the on/off ignition combination and the light comes on again with a new ping so it must still be registering the fault.

It is stupid. The dealer on the phone said it could be anything from a faulty sensor to a major engine fault, the only way I can find out is to have it scanned not read the code back and tell the dealer. Annoying.

I have not noticed any performance change, done about 40 miles on mixed roads since the light came on and no noises or performance issues. The manual says take it easy and go see your Honda dealer as soon as possible. They cannot see me till Friday. Helpful.

The good old days of Honda you could get a paper clip, bridge the correct connectors and read the flashes (just read you can do this on the K-series engines - probably pre CANBUS though). So you need a reader. £90 +VAT seems a lot just to have a look, seeing as you can pick up a reader for £50. See if there is an independent or a member on here who is local that has a reader and get the code of for cheaper (if a member, knowing the gents they'll do it of the kindness of their own hearts  ).

Make a note of code and report back. Nothing immediately obvious springs to mind what it could be. Really need the code.

Well there is a local garage who used to service my old car. I will call him and see if he has a reader. He is a bit of a yokel though, so might not be all high tech.

Dude, OBD readers have been common for over a decade - even Billy-bob-baccy-chewin'-sister-worrier should have one by now.

He sits on his porch playing banjo, but I will ask him.

Once I have the code do you recommend Honda dealer repair if it is covered by Warranty?

Really depends on the fault. There is a good chance it will be covered by the warranty anyway.

If you had a glowplug light then it would definitely be something annoying like the fuel filter, but you say there was nothing else flashing - hopefully that and the fact the car isn't in limp mode means it is not too serious.

I have downloaded an android app with the codes on, will get yokel man to do a scan in the morning and report back.

Thanks guys for all your help. And happy it doesn't seem serious at this stage.

OK so the yokel at my local garage got his mate to come round and reset the code without noting what code it was even though I asked him to. Which was an epic fail.

He said he seemed to think it might have been glo plugs.

What a dumbass....

You'll have to wait for the warning to come back then - which it might not

Glow plugs? May be fuel filter related.

glow plug light is a classic ff problem

So I guess I just wait till my fuel filter explodes or the light comes on again right?

I still can't believe he deleted without writing it down first! He can write can't he?

He's not the brightest no. His mate might be able to remember it he said I will find out tomorrow.

Sounds like a typical main dealer techy.

I should flipping well hope so. What if it was a mission critical code.

Kind of like having your tooth pulled and the dentist asking if he got the right one after pulling it and chucking it down the drain.

Well yeah spot on.

I will just have to wait and see if the light comes on and hope his mate remembers the code tomorrow. I will update as soon as I can.

Thanks again lads.

Sorry to be nasty about him; it's just laughably dumb when you think about it.

OK now I am really pee'd off. The indicator and wiper stalks are not working properly. Anyone know about this?
