Hi everyone,

I have owned my Honda Accord 2.2CDTi for 2 weeks now and am enjoying it very much ...

I have a puzzling issue whereby the car sometimes seems to 'hold back' when I accelerate .. Difficult to explain really but I'll do my best ..

It is normally more noticeable when in second gear, when I accelerate it feels as though the car is braking for a split second and then it suddenly 'frees off' and accelerates as normal .. The car drives perfectly well other than this and it doesn't happen all of the time ..

Does anyone have any ideas please ?

I have a 15 month warranty on the car and so am not overly concerned at this point and it may even be that this is a normal thing anyway but I was just wondering if it could be an indication that something needs sorting out ..

Thanks very much ..

Dave ..

Is it doing at around 1500-2K rpm? could be sticking EGR valve, slightly dirty or weak air flow sensor or a clogged fuel filter.

When was it last serviced and was the fuel filter renewed? How many miles has the car done?

I will have to check the RPM as I'm not sure about that .. Mileage is 58K and the last service was just an oil change about 4 weeks ago .. I have read that the fuel filter can be a cause of this problem and will look to replacing it with a genuine Honda filter ..

Thanks for taking the time to reply ..

what is the fuel gauge reading when it happens bud? as I have bored people before by mentioning - I can get mil's and stuttering almost to order when I am just above warning light coming on. its all to do with filter, anvil's fuel levels.

in my case anyway.

Sounds like turbo lag when you hit the accelerator pedal from low revs.

I'd be surprised if it's the fuel filter, as it would cause more of a problem when being hammered at high revs and would probably bring up a MIL (eg P0087; low fuel rail pressure, or others). But, if you haven't changed it for a while it wouldn't hurt to replace it and see (or simply vent and drain it), but it is a little trickey. You don't have to buy it from Honda - if yours is a pre-facelift the filter is made by Bosch and can currently be bought from eurocarparts.co.uk for £17.60 using the discount code 'midmonth30'. If it's a post-facelift then you need a Denso filter.
