Hi guys

After a weeks of searching for a car (being unfortunate and very picky) I still havent found one.

I've been to see a Accord 2.2 diesel today very close to my home and it was from a trader.

Black, CTDI sport, half leather, 81k, 3 owners, FSH stamps in the book no receipts

Overall condition was pretty good and alloys needed a refurb

The only thing that is putting me off is that its 5 gears and i really wanted 6 gears (dont ask me why as even i dont know)

The other good thing was that the clutch seems pretty good also

If i purchase the car and wanted to get a remap done, would 5 gears have any effect/problems??

£4,995, does that seem a good price?

The link is below and your advice would be very much appreciated

unless you only drive on motorways, i wouldnt be put off buying an accord purely on this.
i wanted a 6 speed box too, but the right car came up and i get on fine with the 5 speed.
the overall condition of the car is far more important.
at 70 mph in 5th your sitting at 2000rpm and its all very comfortable.
as for the map i wouldnt let it being a 5 speeder put you off, many forum members have mapped them.
if its a good one then go for it fella

The remap is same on both 5 or 6 (different map but no different feel).

Thanks for the input so far,

Most of my driving is going to be town driving so in that sense 6th gear shouldnt be an issue

If i purchase the car that would mean i would be the 4th owner which does put me off a little.

The service book is stamped with Honda, but no invoices. Should I be concerned with that?

i wouldnt be overly concerned with the owners situation, im the 4th owner of the my accord, honda uk owned it then a manager
at west end honda, then another bloke then me.
if the book is stamped by honda, you can contact them with your registration number and they can confirm what has been done,
recipts would be nice though. its always something you can use to haggle them with

I wouldnt worry about not having a 6th gear, the overall ratio for top gear isnt that different (100-200rpm at 70mph), just that the 6 speed box has its ratios a bit closer. mine is a 5 speed and is mapped with no probs

I would hold out for the 6 speed box personally, that extra 100-200rpm makes all the difference to economy when sat at 70mph. The 5 speed box has a nicer 3rd and 4th gear though B)

I have to agree with pepster. I've had minor issues with mine since i bought it and feel my car is not up to a remap.

But my understanding was a remap could provide greater economy as you could use higher gears earlier?

Its probably a good idea if you've got a sorted later 7 gen.

The underlying argument CJ is making is correct - no car should ever be tuned unless it's healthy to start with. A remap will only exacerbate underlying problems.

Well guya

I've put a deposit on the Accord and will be picking it up tommorow. It was advertised at £5k and after haggling him down i eventually got it for £4700

Fingers crossed I hope everything stays ok with the car.

The last service that is stamped on the book is from Honda at 80k and now its on 81k so i guess i should be ok for some time although i mite check the oil levels to be sure.

Nice one Mo, sounds good!!
