Hi
Had my accord idtec 2009 about 5 months now but never used sport mode only when i bought it .
problem is never relisted it will not change down when slowing down so stops in that gear all the time till you flip it down
i have to keep it in d all the time now.
If it drops down in D drive i would have ***umed it uses the same solenoid switch ?.
Could it be an tcu problem ,any one shine any light on this or had a similar pain .
.

Hi Nigal I'm not 100% as I don't drive an Auto but this might be normal.
If your in sports mode I'm presuming your using the quick change paddle switch on the steering wheel.
So in effect it would be like driving a manual without the gear stick.
I might be completely wrong so someone hear will have your answer.

Too cold outside to get the book, but will try to see what you are talking about when next driving. It is not a "sport" setting, the book says "sequential" never felt the urge to use it WHY would you? I can recall the olden days with the 3 speed auto's and drivers hanging on to low gears to improve acceleration, and just totalling the box. There are two pedals on an auto one for GO and one for STOP. LOL try not to get them mixed up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1enGwT6u6A look at this: down shift on sports automatic ? mine will not as i said : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1enGwT6u6A So has any one had this happen to them on there honda box.

Tried mine out today, 1. engine running, 2. engage "sport"? and the car is in drive, 3. accelerate and the thing takes off like a scalded cat and remains in 1, 4. stop and then drive away gear remains in 0ne, then flip the up switch and then it goes into 2, do it again up to 3 then 4 then 5. Brake speed down and it changes down showing the gear it is in, but this is very quick and you may not see it and when at rest it is in one ready to go. Not convinced that this is a good idea nor pleasant, best left in "drive" auto, As I have said "hanging onto low gears will sooner or later cook the box. If your car is not quick enough see Fahad, or better still see Ron Dennis.!!

Or check your fluid level?

HI
Sorry but the car runs fine cat removed egr blanked and remapped by mtec barnsley .
The problem with the car is (it does not go down the gears when slowing or stopping
in s drive) if i was to forget it was in s drive and it was in 4 gear it would be like setting of in
4th in a manual ( bang) ??? please dont tell me to just drive in D .would you buy the car
anyone no anyone with experience with honda automatic boxes .

HI

Sorry john forgot to mention fluid level ok been changed twice in its life time by honda it,s done 130k miles
oil clean red.

I would not normally suggest this, but what about taking it to a Honda dealer (gulp) and see if they can will at least go with you in a test drive to see if there is anything fundamentally wrong. They won't ask for money upfront before taking the test drive, they'll either say yes or no, presumably the former in the hope of some business (which you may not decide on if they suggest a difficult issue).

Are you sure it has remained in high gear? from that video it states that you can only upshift in "s" so as soon as you are rolling try upshifting and see what happens. When in "D" you can upshift and downshift as you like, but imho not much of an advantage. If I am confusing the issue please tell me to go away, the other alternative is as Brian suggests. does it kick down when in "D"

Hi
John when in s mode it stops in the gear last selected 1234 changing up, when slowing down or stopped the only way to change down is by paddles .
Found my manual it should change down automatically when in s .
The kick down is not working ?? might have to do what brian suggests as you say.
D drive is fine works as it should .

You should have mentioned in your original post that it's been remapped, this is key information.

The auto box is looking for torque signals from the engine ecu. If those have been incorrectly calibrated then you will have all sorts of weird
Problems.

Also why is your cat removed? Did you mean DPF or is the cat also removed?

Was this problem present before tuning?

And was this problem there before tuning?

Yes happened taking it there tried to set of in 3 gear in sports mode. egr and dpf was done before i bought the car.

Happened taking it there? Can you be clearer please. I'm just trying to help you establish a way forward.

As you said was this problem there before tuning, I was taking it to be tuned Pulled up at a junction tried to set off made clunking sound looked down it was in gear 3 sport mode put it in D drive drove off.
when it stopped should have changes down ?
Never had this trouble on any automatics i have had in the past, must have had 20 to 30 .

Ok but you also said the EGR and DPF was done before you bought the car, so the tuner you took it to was at least the second tuner to have his hands on it yes?

sorry got it wrong the dpf was done before i bought the car and the egr was done and remapped when the egr pipe cracked
common fault so yes two tuners.

Ok.

So the problem you describe is definitely not normal.

Based on what you've said, I would say either bad software is causing the issue or the first tuner breached the torque limiters and has damaged the box somehow.

If you can find out who tuned it first and ask them to return it to factory state and see if the problem disappears or not.
